Finally....Da new rig..

Next the last big interior part--the dash.... I knew this would be a tricky part to do...

So I started with the passenger side of it since it was the simpler side...

So my original intention was to make the dash part of the center console and removable as one unit and I had made sure the center console would have enough room to slide out when I built it. Well I changed that idea and made a plate thats welded to the top front edge of the center with inserts so the dash actually bolts down to it.

Well I was able to get the dash done and besides my not up to my standards tig welding I was happy with how it turned out.

I originally wanted to recess the gauges deeper into the dash but found I didn't like the very sharp edge that would be there by the dash top and I knew I would warp the dash top welding the assy to the underside of it...

But I can scratch that off the list and now onto the electrical center..

So next I built this.....

And it goes here. Its my electrical center and I always knew where I wanted it to go and wanted something that was as sealed as it could be because living in the PNW thats just what ya gotta do. I had to wait to get the dash done first...

I figured since I was getting decent at making lids I would bounce to the rear and get my cargo area done. I always new I would need to trim it down a but to get an overlapping lid to go on it. I ended up only taking 3/8" off the top.

So I got the lid made and all retaining hardware installed.

And another piece of the puzzle completed.....

My next step is to get the rear wiring roughed in but it seems my wife thinks I need a vacation so I am getting dug off someplace,lol...

So the wife found a way to make me relax--stick me on a cruise ship for a week,lol..

So home an hour and I was right back at it....

So started working on the rear of the car and got the rear winch controller wired to the winch..

Next I ran the power cable to the batteries.

I got the batteries all wired up and the 2/0 main cable started running forward to the center of the chassis. I will finish that later once I get a bunch of interior stuff done up and started pulling panels...

So I got all the tabs done for the rear to front harness. Once the harness meets the trans cooler lines it will just follow it to the fuel pump and I will figure it out from there when I hit that point.

So all the metal work is done on the rear except the tabs for the body panels.

So the time had come to finally do the door bars. I still have one cross tube to do but I can't do that until I get the outer floor panels pulled--that will be done soon.. I ran the back bar lower due to I like having a spot for my elbo to sit...

So time for a little fun and one thing I really do enjoy doing. Now my plan is to build the rig in a modular fashion as much as possible so I will be doing as much wiring as I can that can be torn apart for paint. I got the dash top wired up.

The dash panel gave me a perfect spot the brake switch and I also added 2 led lights under the dash for some form of interior lighting. I had something similar (not near as good) on my old toy and loved it.

For the dash harness to fit perfectly I had to notch the center console.

I just had to see what the gauges looked like...

So I figured out where I wanted my Ipod but I didn't want it like in my toy simply Velcro'd on--I wanted a secure mount and something that would not let it be taken easily...

This is what I came up with

And there it is with the top portion that secures it into place..

I figured it was a very wise idea to label the damn switch's because there is no way I will remember what is what,lol.. My toy had like 5 and I was always forgetting what was what.

I also got the center console wired up. The feed wires to the master ignition switch will come from a separate loom.

Next I got the switch pod wired up and again its going to be fully removable.

Now onto the cab wiring. I always prefer to start at the end and work my way forward so I started at the compressor and worked from there.

My plan is to totally complete the wiring in the cab so I can simply pull it out for paint.

I notched the switch pod to run the harness thru it along with notching the center dash piece. Got the wiring to the top of the firewall and will work on getting it thru here soon.

I also made a cover that bolts down to cover the front portion of the harness between the pod and center dash.

So I ran the wiring thru the firewall in 2 spots, one being the main feeds and other the rest of the wiring. I went and simply notched the top of the panel so the panel can be lowered (just enough room) and the wiring pulled forward.
