That sucks, call it in. As much as I hate reading these threads I agree with the people who have a brain in their head, its not the breed its the owner. Obviously this poor pup drew the short straw in life and got stuck with a bad owner.

my family is full of pits, and before pits were the bad dogs everyone loved to hate on we had a Rotty mix, which people at the time also loved to hate. Funny thing out of all of our dangerous breeds we've had never had an instance of our dogs attacking but then again we also love our dogs and train them.

Some people shouldn't own guns, some people shouldn't have fast cars, and some people shouldnt have animals.

That's a good way to get shot yourself.... The time to shoot the dog would have been at the moment it came at you in the beginning. Going to someones home with a gun or a club in your hand is a very very bad idea.

I would recommend you go see the DR.
The bite may not be that badâ€¦ but the DR has to report it.
Long story (short version) I was bitten by a Rottweiler quite a few years back.
It was a pup so I let it slide, the couple that owned it seemed nice enough.
Hand/wrist started swelling so I went to the DR. A couple weeks later I am painting the house and the dog pond guys shows up at my house and wants to talk. The same dog had bite a little girl in the face a couple weeks before me & another person. It was the dogs last strike (I think they get 3) if I stepped up. The dog was put down. The owners would have let it slide.

I have nothing against pits (owned one myself years ago great dog) but the owner has to train and maintain the dog (like any dog I think). Turn his dog one his ass and see how he like it.

I gave been bitten by dogs 3-4 times and pit bulls were the first few and 20 years ago I had the tip of my nose bitten off by a lab/hound/Sheppard mix. 16 rounds into a dog on a couch makes a hell of a mess!! Lol :haha:

I'm with Totalled, **** off...Barking is NO grounds for taking the life of a dog...The owner of the dog that got shot is a driver at work, and he watched it all go down...It's like shooting your kid because he/she cries...

That sucks to hear Mark, Hope nothing happens to your leg---but I am glad to see your neighbor called it in--hopefully on your side. I would have done the same thing as you, and I am glad the Popo seem to see it your way as well...

I have known several over the yrs, and not one was aggressive. Agreed it boils down to the owners love/attention and the training. Doesn't really make a difference what breed it is.

This topic should not be about Pitts, it should be about a sizeable dog bitting someone, nothing more nothing less. Enough with trying to defend the Pitt breed from some of you, just happened to be that it was a pitt that bit someone. Some people hate them, some like them, but again if a dog that is capable of serious damage to a human and bites someone man/woman/or child it needs to be put down. Dogs are animals, sure the owner has a lot to do with raising it but some dogs from every breed trained or not will have instincts you cannot work out of its temperament. Everybody needs to understand this. I get tired of hearing people that like certain breeds make excuses for the breed. Rant over fawkers.:fawkdancesmiley:

Last thing I got to say about it is IMO the owner probably made the dog this way. But why is it these losers all seem to have Pit bulls if these dogs are so gentle?
I Hear what your saying Chop shop the owner should have been the one getting the clubbing. If it would have been my wife or one of are grand kids that got bit things would be very different and I'll leave it at that because this is probably not the last run in I'm going to have with this white trash ****er.

It's the fashionable thing. It used to be Dobermans and Rotties, but now they want Pits. I can't wait for the Pit fad to fade, I love the breed and the best thing for the breed will be for these morons to move onto a different dog to own.

An owner should be held liable for anything there dog does--but lets not get the "every dog" bites because of the owner.. I have dealt with this on probably the worse way anybody can..

No dog is worth a massive lawsuit if he/she bites anyone. The situation Mark is in sucks especially if he knows he will be potentially dealing with the issue with dog and owner again. I had to deal with this situation in my neighborhood when my kids were younger and the owner of the dog knew if he didn't take the dog out of the situation he would wake up and find it dead. Dog never bit anyone but was very aggressive charging and showing his teeth to my kids. Luckily for the dog he did the right thing because I was not messing around. And lastly I will say the dog was a well loved and trained family dog but that didn't mean ****.

Shouldve stomped it right in the road, broke the ****ers neck and then placed it on his front step. Flat out the ****er needs to die!! My point was to handle it himself not to kill an innocent barking dog dumbasses. Handle yourself because animal control has steps to follow and a process that works after its too late (for someones little child playing out front of there own house. Go ahead and hate all you want. Glad you guys immediatly go to **** you, or **** off because you dont like someones opinion. Your opinion is no different than mine and thats why we live in america jack.:looser::fawkdancesmiley:

My best friend's daughter was killed by the family dog. Docile and sweet but one day snapped. They are animals and we too often forget that.

They have these dogs because you can turn them into an extremely dangerous weapon because their breed was made for that sort of crap. Not saying they can't be a nice dog, any dog can be nice, my buddys friend owns a ****ing wolf (its a high wolf content hybrid) and it's one of the most loving "dogs" I've been around because they raised it from a pup and treated it right. But that also doesn't mean instincts can't kick in and cause some trouble, as with any dog. Back onto the incident, it's good the police showed up so now they will have a history with that piece of ****.

I dont disagree with what you did. The sad fact is that by the time the owner has "ruined" the dog, you have a dog capable of nasty things that might have otherwise have been a good dog if raised elseware.

This dog was probably trying to intimidate you. He found you holding your ground instead. This kinda dog is not as dangerous to a person of your character and build, but is a bad threat to a child or elderly person.

This kinda dog is most likely a bad offender if paired up or in a group of dogs.

Some dogs can be rehabilitated and changed and others cannot. To me a dog is a very important addition to a family/individual and I dont want a "rehabilitated" dog in my circle, thats just me. Would you hire a rehabilitated nanny?

Mark, why do you feel the dog singled you out and made contact? Even a dumb or evil animal has a thought train. What do ya figure he was thinking that led him to seek you?

In your words I guess he was just seeing what I tasted like the first time. It broke the skin and a little blood nothing to bad. When I went to find him and the owner that's when he saw me and came charging in full attack mode. If I wouldn't of had a 4' long club this would be a lot different. I was barely able to keep him off me till the owner came out of the house and called him off.

Why Brad I have no idea. I was 5' feet from my front door when he bit me. I'm not afraid of dogs even ones like that so I don't think it was sensing fear on my part.
My wife is afraid to go outside by herself now. Like I told the owner and the cop if I see it loose its dead just that simple and I don't care what anyone thinks about that.

Love ya Chop but you can't logically make that kind of comparison, it's two different kinds of thinking. As a former dog rehabber(quit because I got tired of know-it-alls that ****ed up their dog trying to tell me they don't need help, it's the dog) I'd definitely take a rehabbed dog. I know how to treat a dog like a pack member and not try to make it another "kid" in the family leading to nothing but confusion for the dog. I'd shoot the nanny before the dog anyway. She's probably Pennywise in drag.

Ill play, since I have nother better to do. I have a long story that happened to me about 8 months ago.

I have a 2 year old German short hair that loves people and loves to play, loves other dogs... not really a watch dog but thats not what he is for. He is our family pet, (only child if you will). We have 2.5 acers and share a property line with really good friends and neighbors. Its a sweet deal cause we could not ask for better neighbors.... but.... the nieghbors own and train german shepherds for police duty, they own 2 of them and normally have a few more on site getting tuned up.

One day I was weedwacking my back yard, my dog was out playing and all of a suddon I got a feeling something was not right. I shut the weedwacker off and turned around to look down the front yard and see my neighbor (he is 6'6" 260 if he is an once) holding my dog and walking him up to me.... The neighbor has his german shepherd in a "down" about 20' behind him. As I walk toward my neighbor and my dog I see the german shepherd behind him laying down watching. I get within 15' of my neighbor and my dog and "Bozy" the german shepherd breaks his down and charges... now this dog is 12 years old, retired police force extremely trained in all ways of attack. This is not your street brawler thug dog... this thing is a navy seal of dogs and it is coming at me quick! Im not a ***** and I stay calm and watch him close the gap, brace myself and somewhat give the dog my left arm since I was rocked back with my right in full on redneck hay maker form I nail this dog in the side of the head... (broke 2 fingers) This shocked the old dog and he kinda rocked back, but quickly snapped down twice on my right arm. This time punching his K9 teeth through to the bone on my forarm and crushing my elbo with his second bite. Lucky I have a neighbor the size of Marshon Lynch and he (as quick as he could) jumped on his dog and got the thing under control, not before it got a chunk of his inner thigh right below the boys.

This was a **** show, I never would have guessed this would happen with the care and control my neighbors take with their dogs. They both know they own deadly weapons and still this happens.

I was a sport through all this, I have some nasty scars on my right arm to prove it but I did tell my neighbor that I love him like a brother but if this happens again the outcome will invalve a firearm and a mini excavator... and he agreed. That dog is worth close to $100k with all the training and breading value and still it has a mind of its own.

Your an idiot all your comments on this thread are reallllllllly dumb and calling out fellow wheelers in your first post just make your posts even more irrelevant. On that note i own a pit some of you on here have met her like crash yes she barks but she is also one of the most gentle dogs i have owned and i got her from the pound its all about how they are raised and upkept she learned from day one that bad behaviour is not tolerated and she is very protective of my kids which i why we have her she is an extension of my family. Any breed can be bad from the smallest to the biggest its all the owners. On that note i am with you Mark i would have done the same thing and if my pit were to ever charge someone like that she would get put down. Hope the bite doesnt turn into anything worse
