Here's the problem with religion.

It narrows the focus of your faith and beliefs (whatever they may be) about life. In doing such it progresses such things as intolerance, starting with other religions...it's just a downward spiral from there.

Religion would be great if people kept it to themselves behind closed doors :awesomework:

On the contrary, my faith makes living everyday a feeling of great appreciation! I live and love every single day. The thing is I wont fear death when it does come. Ive been there. I spend months in the hospital with cancer. When youre time comes you'll be terrified because for you the light switch will be turned off and nothing else will happen. I dont redicule you for your lack of faith. I feel sorry for you. This life is but a flicker, but it sets the stage for eternity. What IF Im right and your throwing away your future?

You simply dont understand. How could you, you are the narrow minded one. There's no intolerance here. Believe what you want to believe. I wont interfere with you and I dont expect you to interfere with me. Pretty simple. Dont make the mistake (as you previously did) of grouping all religions together. Christianity doesnt require you to kill disbelievers! :awesomework:

I have to say I agree with Brad. Most people that have a negative outlook on religion have been burned by religious people. Every religious person I have ever met (regardless of what faith they are) has been a narrow minded hypocrite. I have no problem with someone believing in a certain religion...just don't push it on me and don't judge me because I don't agree with you

Christianity...historically speaking, is the worst of them all when it comes to intolerance of others. Why do you think missionaries all over the globe tried to convert others to Christianity? In the process destroying cultures...

What I am referring to is that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. When certain entities try to censor pornographic material for example. What one belief system considers a sin another may not. The instant we criminalize something on a purely moral basis under the demand of any given religion we establish said religion as the established American religion.

Yes we are one nation under god. We are not one nation under the Christian god. Religions will always conflict with one another. I believe our forefathers wrote out the first amendment to keep that conflict out of the white house. That is all I am getting at.

I agree completely with Jackazz's last posts. Religion would be great if people kept it to themselves. If only so I did not have to deal with these two dudes on bicycles knocking on my door once a month to tell me how right they are and how wrong I am.

Agreed. Religion does help many people. Some of the greatest people I know are very religious. I have no problem with religion at all, its just not for me.

For the record I have no problem with In God We Trust on our currency, in our courtrooms or even in our schools. I'll even take hands and bow my head in prayer when I find myself a guest at the dinner table of a Christian family. I respect it fully, I just don't have faith myself.

Well you may not like the rules, and I didnt make them but they do exist. God asks us to spread his word. Call that Christianity if you want. Frankly I see nothing wrong with introducing people who've not yet had the opportunity to know Christ!

Im not a Later Day Saint (read Mormon) but I dont get angry when I see young men on their missions wanting to talk to me about their faith. If I were the ever intolerant one youd think that I wouldnt want anything to do with them as I dont believe as they do. Etc etc etc.

Sadly neither of my Grandma's are alive today. Both were church-goers so it would have been an interesting discussion.

I, however, am not a church-goer though I was raised roman catholic (through confirmation and beyond). I've not needed that crutch for quite some time, and have become enlightened and liberated as an adult.

I have good morals. I have never killed anyone or stolen from anyone. I have never done anything to ever hurt anyone that did not genuinely earn it. The person I am today is the result of very little religious influence.

We are born into our lives with no morals what so ever. From the instant we are conscious we begin learning. Our particular upbringing will determine our morals well before we become active members of society. Religions obviously have a huge influence on individuals whom are brought up under their tutelage. This can have a very negative or a very positive effect on ones morals. It can also have very little effect at all. Any way you put it it is still only part of one's cultural, social "intake" that will influence who a person is. It is only in a person's daily life filled with the choices they make will they decide to be a good person or not.

I choose to be a good person and to do the right thing. Period. Whatever path a free person chooses to follow to achieve a quality character is cool by me.

i on the other hand was raised catholic and feel that religion is the biggest crock of **** mankind has ever bought into. nothing more than big business and 100 percent about money nothing to do with doing what is human.

if i remember correctly the catholic church is the richest organization in the world ....:puke:until they had to start paying for all the pedophiles it breeds, followed closely by a few other religions.

Morals is a more encompassing term than that. Morals includes such values as "don't have sex with another dude because it's 'wrong'," or "don't snort coke because it's 'wrong'."

The trouble is, "wrong" is not a base value. It has to be based on something more concrete, or it's utterly meaningless to everyone else.
