I've been trying to get added to the group for about a year now and even had current group members ask the admin to add me, but have gotten nowhere. What's the deal?

I'm not sure but I don't think there is really any affiliation between this and that other than most are members of both.

That is a totally different group not affiliated with this forum. It was addressed by JohnG a few years ago and there is a thread about it on here somewhere. I am not in it. I think I was at one point and left because of gayness, but could be wrong...

If it were for gayness I feel very confident you would still be there.
