Hydro help

Ok, but my system still has issues so until I get them worked out I am just running regular hydro fluid for testing.

i would stay with the stock pump my buddy have worked for a long time .last weekend i sew 2 new tg pumps and one psc take a ****

Hijack***

I am getting ready to get my full hydro set up going but I have a couple questions, glad this thread came up.

I have a TG pump and it came with a warning saying to use either regular PS fluid or Synthetic. Currently I have regular fluid in there, once I get the system all plumbed in and the bugs worked out I

Use what's called reusable fittings. They screw together and usually exceed the crimped fittings but also cost a bit more. As the name implies you can also reuse them if you make changes.

I used to have my lines made and still carry a spare in case I blow a line. But after quite some experiance with the style you are refering too I have to agree 100%. You can just carry a spare end and a chuck of hose and pretty much be prepared for any trail repair.

Sounds good, sounds like the same set up my propane line uses. Not sure why I didn't think of that. :redneck:

I had Napa build me hydro lines. They are the crimp type with the weatherhead hose that has the steel mesh inside. Works good so far. I would assume its expesive either way you go.

And yes, What is the best way to flush the system?

The simple way to fush the system(as far as im concerned) is to remove all associated parts and let then gravity drain.

Now get ready cause here is my proud american in the mfg industry speech.

Please buy howe or pos systems parts. I dont want to bag on anyone else but the reality in manufacturing these days is its cheaper to send stuff to other countries for cheap labor. The end result is a cheap part initially but quick/early failure and most likely damage to other parts. You get what you pay for, Please pay for a american manufactured product.

My pos steering system has worked perfectly since day one. Sean is his name and can be reached at (334)567-7229. Leave a message as hes not always by the phone. His website is down, His sales are strictly from word of mouth.

if this were me id do the following:

add a tank of clean fluid to feed the PUMP three times the system capacity at least.

disconnect the return line from the valve to the resevoir and dump into a dirty container. or filter and return to the supply.

set this up so it can be ran with out spraying oil everywhere.

have someone monitor the clean supply while cycling the steering from lock to lock multiple times till at least three times the system capacity has been flushed thru.

It would be even better if you could heat the fluid to around 200 degrees as hot oil cleans better.

drain system completely

restore system to normal add new fluid.

with that said i have never done this on a steering system but i have on many small hyd systems.

Does everyone agree with this procedure? Seems like the pump could go dry.

Its not that my fluid is dirty its just that I think I may be running the wrong fluid. I am useing regular hydrolic fluid from napa. It may be to thick. I think I am gonna switch to a PS fluid so I dont want to cross contaminate. I guess I will try to flush it all out but that means I need to waist almost a gal of fluid. :booo:

someone has to monitor the clean pump supply so as to ensure this does not happen. was stated that way. if the clean supply runs low stop the motor.

I PMed and called Sean at POS but no answer yet. His shop is about 20 min from my inlaws house. I may swing by his place in September when I am down there.

You do have to be careful not to run the pump dry ( better to have two people there to do it )...but yeah, it can be done this way---and yes, warm fluid is better...

I bought a complete system from him, put napa hydraulic oil in it and got steering before my engine ran. I ran the same napa hydro fluid for a year and a half with no issues.

Sean used to run pos full time, But the economy tanked so he has a second income now. Give him time, He will call back. Id be blow away if you have a 5 minute conversation with him.

Ok sounds good. I am in no hurry.

So this weekend I desided to get a new stock pump. I cut the factory res apart and made it twice the size, 2qt. system now. I drained the etire system and flushed it out using the old pump. Installed the new pump and did some mods to the valve. I drilled it out to 5/32" for more flow at low rpms and then took out all the shims and put a 3mm washer under the spring. WOW!!! What a difference in pressure. I think If I stack one more 3mm washer under the spring and drill the hole out just a little more I will have it right. It has no lag at idle sitting still right now. Works great. Now I will just have to see how long it will last. I dont know why it would burn this pump up, I have a good size cooler sitting right in front of my rad getting good air flow. I guess time will tell.

Ok now I am lost... One run out and my pump is gone. Is a 2" ram to small for 42" tires and it just overworks the pump?
