project: leafsprings suck.

So after bending numerous leaf springs over the course of the last couple years I began researching and planning a 4link/3link build. 3 weeks ago in naches I blew my trans so it seemed like a good time to begin the build. I had already started collecting parts about a month ago so I had a pretty good collection of parts so off I went.

Here is a couple of the more recent pics of my rig

The rig is now torn down to the frame and the build has started.

Here are the numbers I came up with using the calcs I will try to stick as close as possible to these numbers but they are just a guideline. The front of the upper links will be adjustable. This is my fist time doing a link suspension so constructive critacism is welcome just dont hurt me too bad.:haha:

I hate to be the one to inform you... but you mounted the axle and links on the wrong side of the frame. :fawkdancesmiley:

Just kiddin'... looks good.

Got some work done on the front lowers today hope to finish them tommorow. Then I'll flip her over and start on the uppers.

I'm still torn between coilovers and air shocks. The cost of coils puts coil overs over the edge. That and the posability of having to buy coils more than once. So I'll probably end up with air shocks.

Well after seeing my error (thanks notmatt) I removed everything from the frame and welded it to the correct side. :fawkdancesmiley:

This is the chassis sitting at the correct hight and the axles set at the correct hight for 36 iroks.

Now I get to start on the uppers:D

So I got some more stuff done today. I recieved my air shocks wensday 2.0 sway a ways :awesomework:

Redid the back half of the frame to narrow and raise a little. From the factory the rear of the frame was 37" which makes mounting the shocks a little tight so I chopped it off where it is 32" and redid it from there back to remain 32". I also added 8" to the lenght of the frame which should gain me some storage space for the weekend trips and will still retain a 90 degree departure angle :awesomework:

And now some pics

I got into it and just started cruising. Today I got the frame completely welded up and set the body on for shock mock up. So heres the pics.

I went a little crazy with the plasma cutter. OOPS whered the back of the tub go:redneck: . I then used my mad mspaint skills to lay out a idea of what I want my cage and rear tub to look like:haha: .

Well I started bending up some tube to get a feel for the new bender and came up with my stinger. I also got my new chromo shafts in so I hung my rear axle. If I can get ball joints tomorrow I will hang the front.
