Hi All:

The WA. State DNR is holding meetings this week to solicit public input as to a recreation plan for the Naneum Ridge State Forest.

A map of the planning area:

There is a meeting on Wednesday, April 25th in Ellensburg:

There is also a meeting in Wenatchee on Thursday the 26th:

It would be great if 4 wheel drive enthusiasts were represented at these meetings! :awesomework:

Thanks in advance to anyone that can attend these DNR meetings.

There will be people there but their (DNR) not really offering much that would interest us.

There will be but their not really offering much that gets would interstate us.

To clarify (I think he meant): There will be someone from the 4x4 community at the meetings.

However the DNR proposal does not contain much that would interest the 4x4 community.

I know this area and there is some 4x oppurtunity there. But the powers to be are not much interested in expanding on it.

Hi All:

I've come to the conclusion that if the 4wd community does not speak up at every opportunity, our chances of developing new trails, let alone preserving what is currently available, will only shrink.

This became obvious with the recent Snoqualmie Corridor project. Over the past 20 - 30 years the DNR had acquired control over various forest partials along the I-90 in east King County.

When they started their recreation planning process earlier this year they said that ORV use was shut-out by the agreements years ago that brought these forest areas under DNR management.

It is an uphill battle to attempt to get 4wd use in the Naneum Ridge forest area, but if "we" don't at least make our opinions heard, we definitely won't get anything!

Your so very right :awesomework: So I guess you will be there and take the lead in getting these "new trails" for us then. Sorry for the smart ass remark but in all reality you hit the nail on the head. We need more people to take the lead and get things done. Most of the "leadership" if you will already has their plates overflowing.

On the same note ... as I said the very people that are taking the lead in this area will be at these meetings and we will be represented.

The naneum doesn't offer anything to the 4x4 group. There are no 4x4 trails, just green dots and motor bike trails. There has be a lot of land gated off in the recent years. The naneum used to be a really neat, limited use area because the roads were so bad you had to have decent rig just to get there. They "fixed" the roads and bingo it got used, gov started to complain about overuse and gates started going up. The best thing they could do is let the roads go back to crap and use will be limited again.

Hi All:

Thanks What the for your opinion.

I'll admit, I've never been to the Naneum Ridge area.

Did you attend one of the DNR meetings this last week about the recreation plan for this area?

Regards,

Alan

No, I work 12hr shifts and was at work that day. Our paper has run a couple of stories about it. The guy from the Ceg Ranch was there representing 4x4. Mostly the Naneum is used for fishing, hunting, camping, horse folk, snowmobilers and just cruising the green dots. Anytime the government says they want to start managing an area, it makes me nervous. I think of seasonal closures, paid campgrounds, fees and road closures. The naneum shouldn't be developed like the manastash and taneum are. One thing that helps is it still takes a while to get there and there's not as many bike/horse trails. It also helps that the coasties don't use it like they do the manastash and taneum. Don't develop it and the use will be kept down.
