Hardline Crawlers - Rock Bouncer Builds, Tech & Off-Road Trail Talk

Help Support Hardline Crawlers:

Great race! We got to Disney, did some day time and night time prerunning. The next day was qualifying in the morning and the 4600 race in the afternoon. Qualifying was uneventful, I was first off the line and back to camp to prep for the main. I got the truck staged in the back of the pack where we qualified. I worked my way to the start line and 3, 2, 1 go! I got about half way through the course and cut a tire, I drove on the flat for a while till I reached a flat spot to do the tire change. I got the tire changed and was back on course. At some point coming back towards the start/ finish I cut another tire so I rolled into the hot pit for another tire change. Got back on course with a fresh used Craigslist KM2 with no beadlock. Headed into the Little Blue obstacle I rolled the truck on a drop off section. The truck went over on the driver's side, the roof and then settled on the passenger side. U4 recovery got me winched back over and off I went again. Coming back across the river towards the start finish I lost steering. I pulled off and found a missing bolt for the driver's side TIE rod to steering arm, I grabbed a spare from the truck, got it in and headed out again. No other issued till the last lap where I got stuck in the bottom of Little Blue. Once again U4 recovery got me winched out and on my way back to the start/ finish for the checkered flag. Overall a great race at a great location.

Thanks for the race recap and you got lots of screen time during the 4600 race.

Did you have a codriver for this race? What did you think of the course overall?

No co-drive for this race, Visions or the Sturgis race.

The course was awesome! The terrain and natural obstacles in that area are crazy. The camping and surrounding area was nice, overall a great place for an Ultra4 race. We will definitely be back for this race in 2023.

It looked quite cool between the natural obstacles and the water crossings. Did you stay at Disney or at MAO?

KOH 2023 Race recap!

We got to the lakebed and setup with our 2 other teams. We started the week off pre-running a few rock trails, trying to get up the lap 2 sand hill and pre-running portions of the desert lap. During pre-running the primary fuel pump died and wouldn't allow the engine to go over 3k RPMs when in gear. The fuel pump was swapped out with the backup fuel pump and pre-running resumed. A new spare fuel pump was ordered and picked up in town a few days later. After passing contingency we headed back to the garage and prepped the truck for the EMC race.

Race day we got the truck staged early, drank some coffee and got ready to go. The 4800 cars start moving and that is the signal to get the helmet on and get strapped in to the race truck. We made our way to the start line and 3, 2, 1, go! We were off the line and moving towards the sand hill on the backside of Backdoor. We made it up the hill first try and headed down to the lakebed. We made our way through the desert to Remote Pit 1. At RP1 we got a visual inspection, took some fuel and got moving again. Around Mile Marker 45 the rear end started making broken differential noises. We pulled off course, got out and inspected the damage. We determined the rear diff was broken and decided to keep going in front wheel drive. We were still moving at a decent speed hoping to make it to the Main pit and swap out the diff. Around Mile Marker 60 the splines on the female portion of the front drive shaft stripped out. We coasted off the race course, got out, determined we were out of the race, called it into Race ops and waited for a tow. Race Ops got us towed off course and to a spectator area. A guy form our crew towed us back to camp and we started to do a full inspection of the damage. Most people think the diff broke from driving in 4WD through the desert whoops. We put the spare front driveshaft on, got the truck and all the gear loaded up and started prepping for the 4400 race the next morning.

Overall we had a great time and cant wait for the next race in May.

What a race! Launched the truck during pre-running and bent the front axle. We got the truck back together, skipped qualifying and started the race in the back. I flopped the truck in a turn around mile marker 10. Got flipped back over and started working on the truck. The power steering fluid reservoir was cracked and empty. The clutch reservoir was also empty. I got the clutch reservoir refilled and was back on course with no power steering. Around mile marker 35 of 40 the radiator fan stopped working and the engine started over heating. I swapped in the spare fan relay and nothing. I bypassed the relay and gave the fan 12v still nothing. I made the decision to drive the last 5 miles with no fan, finish 1 lap, park the truck back at the trailer and help pit for our buddy racing 4500. Overall a great time with great people.

Looks so good (even with a missing hood and crunched fender)!:rolf:

First, Visions 2023 back in June, got setup and did some pre-running. Hill climb gone wrong during pre-running. Tried to down shift half way up, stalled the truck, locked up the brakes and slid backwards into a tree. No mechanical damage to the truck. We got the truck through tech and got ready for qualifying. During qualifying we flopped the truck, self recovered and headed back to the trailer to prep for the main race.

Race Day! We started in the back due to flopping during qualifying. No issues with the truck during the first few laps. On the last lap the engine started acting like it wasn't getting any fuel. We pulled off course, swapped out the fuel pump, completed the lap and got the checkered flag for another finish. Overall it was a great time with great people.
