Yeah don't tell me I can't break something. Then it becomes a challenge.

Go buy some 1550s and report back.
Broke a 300m rcv. Is that not good enough for you. O wait I don't have that magical 14 bolt front so it probably wouldn't hold up to 1550s.

Break this and report back.

That's impressive. Myself included 95% of offroaders will not break a 14 bolt with 60 shafts.
The reason I didnt go 14 is because i can't afford 40 spline. A good hp60 is stronger than a 35 spline 300m.

Stumbled upon this thread thanks for all the info great write up enzo. Me and a buddy are building a set of 14bolt center with f250-f350 super 60 outers. original plan is to run the big bell RCV, after reading and rereading I'm more confused then ever. my question is, the bell will fit thru front side of the knuckle without the booth if the seal lip is machined down or am i missing something?

Youll have to machine the ID of the knuckle down for the RCVs to fit theough the knuckle. We do it all the time, no biggie

You got it. Like Jake said, machine the lip and that’s it.

The question for me is still

1- can you reach the 4 hub nuts with the bell in the way?
2- How do you get it back out after the bell is in the boot?

1-my guess is there shouldn't be any issue accessing the nuts because the bell necks down
2-I would think same as normal RCV disassembly process. Pop the boot off. pull hub off, slide entire bell and shaft thru knuckle while leaving the orange boot behind

Ive got some Ouverson’s being made because I hadn’t seen anyone really confirm this working yet. I know the bell will come out but getting that boot off when it’s all assembled and hub unbolted hasn’t been confirmed on the interwebs to my knowledge. Theoretically didn’t really cut it for me when you’re talking 3500 custom axle shafts.

So I'm curious, I would like to see what a Spicer 1550 or a Rockwell 750n joint would look like in the 250/350 knuckles. Would they fit? Pretty sure the 1550 is a factory option so guessing there's no problem there. But what about the 750n? It's not all that much bigger.

ok

1550 will fit as it was a factory shaft in 17+

Rockwell U-Joints should fit since Ouverson makes some shafts with their Violator joints for this axle.

Yeah but again are they for the 350/450 or 450/550 knuckles? I see there being a similar issue with clearance with the lower balljoint. It will probably fit but then again we said the RCVs would probably fit and that took 6 pages.

Confirmed, they fit. I spoke to the guy with this build, he verified knuckles are 250/350. So, another option out there.

Did he say if they fit through the knuckle, or did he have to put it on after the Shay's were in?

I believe there are pics of those shafts in 250/350 knuckles circa 2006 on Pirate (or used to be before the photobucket pump and dump etc).

The normally left as-forged outer surface on the inner shaft yokes had some machine work to clean up the OD so they would slide through the knuckle bore.

That’s the shafts Randy is making me. With Violator joints. They should be getting heat treated this week. I’ll try to take some pics when they come.
