SM465 output shaft

I have an sm465 with the 32 spline output.Is it possible to shorten the output shaft and respline it for a ten spline? Or will the older style ten spline swap into it.

im in the same boat, i need to go 10 spline to shorten my drivetrain length. I found it easier to just by another $50 tranny than swap parts or do resplining. Although i think the shafts will swap??? That is a semi-educated guess???
