I meant run the 2" as base, then top it with 1" clear instead of 5/8"minus.....Agreed on laying down fabric as well if it's mucky ground...also helps with weed control, except for the seeds that fly in...:redneck:

Its not muddy per say. Down about 3 feet is a hard clay base and the water that seeps into the ground will sit just above the clay from what I have been seeing. I haven't had a problem until I take my tractor over it a number of times in the same spot and it can get a little mucky. If I get a good hard base over top it I think it will hold up quite well.

I see what your saying Kev--use the 1" to fill the voids left from the 2".

X2 on the crushed concrete or crushed Asphalt. I don't know what there is up in your area but Woodinville has a big concrete and asphalt recycle place, I can roll out of there with 4-5 tons of crushed whatever I want for $20, vs $20-$30 /ton for 5/8 or similar from Cadman (contractor price). I know its cheaper at the quarry then Cadman's Redmond yard, especially with a hook up, but its hard to beat the recycled stuff.

I like the "2-4" concrete as a base course if I have a nasty area, then a layer of 1-1/4" concrete to fill in the voids. The 1-1/4" crushed asphalt makes a really nice top layer and in a year it fades out a little to look just like gravel.

Either way, like Kev said, put down a thick layer of the bigger stuff, then top it off with 1-1/4" minus or similar to fill in it. Buy, Steal or Rent a compactor to get a good set on it, or better yet if its a large area at once, rent a small roller and go to down on it.

I know some people are going to say BS to this, but in that area I have done a few roads/ drives to barns. I found that geo fabric will save you a lot of money in the long run even with light traffic that ground pumps really bad.

I would put that down and then put 8 to 10 inches over the top of it of 3/4 - from Cadman high rock or see if you can get some out of Monroe rock that is like 2 miles away from you. just past the golf cource

Thanks to Ed Tenny for loaning me his drag box(I think thats what its called) and Charlie coming over and giving me some insight. So once I started slowing way down and changing how I was using the bucket--I was able to get it to where I am happy with it. Its got a couple waves in it but gravel will fix that.. :awesomework:

So back when I was cleaning the barn I recall a fan so I went and dug it out. I think it would be nice to be able to clear the shop out of smoke fairly quickly and this jewel should do the trick. I know they make vents where the flaps open when air is pushed against them so I will have to find one of those.

There is a nursery supply place in Snohomish that has them motorized for that when they are off, they are sealed. I got a couple on my generator shed for when the generator turns on they open. Really nice

Yup, if you do it, get the motorized ones, they stay sealed when not in use...the non-motorized tend to flap when the wind is just right! :haha: :mad:
That fan should move some serious air tho...looks LOUD!!! :haha:

That's pretty cool, I didn't know you could get a vent that actually seals up good. I've been thinking about putting some kind of exhaust fan in my shop.

So I got the 2nd wall finished up. I used that building wrap as a barrier against the sheet metal.

So next I tore down the 3rd wall and the bottom of the 4th wall.

So the door that bob had hanging on the old wall was a wood exterior door and it was pretty hashed. Amongst the stuff I found a brand new metal exterior door that I want to use. The only problem is the bottom has to be cut off due to #1 I will constantly be tripping over it and #2 I won't be able to roll anything heavy over it.

And here is the 3rd wall finished up. Cutting the bottom of the door ended up being easier than I thought but made the door installation a little harder. But it took some time and got it all adjusted and mounted and actually works really good.

So I busted butt today. I was able to get the ceiling/storage loft done. I ended up going with 2x8's on 12" centers. Once it was all tied together it made the whole mess pretty rock solid. I should be able to store some decent weight up there now. I dunno if it was right/wrong but I also ran 2x8's between the the main 2x8's down the center. It took all of the wobble out of the 2x8's and I did them from the top and wasn't too bad being as how I am scared of heights,lol.

Now to get the switch/outlet buckets figured out. The one thing I still gotta figure out is I want to do a bench along the back wall but I want it mid height (bar stool height) and I want outlets just above the bench.

So I am slowly getting things figured out. My original plan was to have the company come out and give me a bid to finish the building/install doors. The more I thought about it and the more I am learning I came up with the idea its probably something I can handle. Now since I need doors charlie hooked me on these roll up doors.

I plan on doing a lift and these will be perfect for this and when up they won't cover the lights. I am looking at the model 2000 door but I will just keep it manually operated.

The only thing I still have to figure out is where to get the tin to match the building.
