...This Project needs a name build..

Cool, learned something new.

My steering column and wheel are from a 1983 Monte Carlo (my first car), I wasn't too concerned with keeping it all Toyota. :redneck:

Taking a break from the 40. Decided I had some junk laying around and I need to clear it up and do something useful with it. I am going to put shelves in where the JoBox is sitting.

Picked up a FZJ80 yesterday..drove 14 hours round trip to get it. I was looking for a nice daily driver that I can take out and wheel while I still build my FJ40. Factory lockers front and rear work just fine. It has seen a little bit of saltwater but I will get that cleaned off and repaint those areas. I will be getting back to the FJ40 soon.

The good, well its a Toyota.
Slee Off Road 6 inch lift with 4inch springs
4x4 Labs sliders
4x4 Labs Rear bumper with dual swing outs
36x13.50x16 Iroks
LX450 short block with less than 9k on it.

It came with a ton of extra stuff including a FSM and Electrical manual.

The bad, not much to gripe about
Tach does not register until after 2500 rpms..otherwise sits on 0
Brakes are soft on first push and then right before the pedal bottoms out it gives for a milisecond and then the vehicle stops.
Only other stuff is small cosmetic things which I am not concerned about.

I do want to start looking for a new drivers door panel to replace the damaged on from the door stop.

Nice find! I've been wanting to pick up an 60 or an early 80 to turn into a camping/light duty wheelin rig. It probably wont happen for quite a while now since I just upgraded the tow rig and I don't think the wife would be too happy if I brought home another rig. :redneck:

I got it for a steal up here. The PO was fanatical about using all oem replacement parts..I have a box full of seals and rings and gaskets and brake lines, the list goes on. What it does need is some new 36x13.50x16 Iroks and some beadlocks as well...but that is $$$ for another day.

Plan on getting back into my FJ40 this weekend. Had a couple things show up and still due in (ARB still has my compressor). I did get a chance to take out my 96 FZJ80 on one of the tamer trails up here. Fairbanks Creek is the name of it. Enjoy some pics of Alaska's version of Tahuya...minus the trees.

This guy was chillin about a mile from our camp spot. My buddy set a bait barrel for black bear but this but hit it, and we found his moose kill site about 20 feet off the trail.

you could just wheel for years up here and never hit the same trail twice..

After a brief hiatus playing with my new to me 96 FZJ80 I got back into working on the FJ40. ARB repaired my ARB compressor and it is back in, need a new positive battery connector and I can test it. I finished welding in the tabs for mounting the seats, Walmart budget console and seat belts.

Not to bad for a guy with no welding training other than a youtube video and a Lincoln 140c

Got my hands on an 85 FJ60 front axle..wider, beefier. Ordered up some stuff from Craig at Ridgeline using Trail Gears 15% off and walla. Modified a small diff cover to work, made a cap for it to keep crap from sitting in it. Cut off the sway bar mounts, welded in the steering stop braces and the lower axle gussets. Made my own upper tube bracing as well.

Looking good! I'd still like to put 60 axles under mine so I could get rid of the wheel spacers.

Diff cover looks good, I had always wondered it you could make one of those work on a Cruiser axle.

hahaha, those plates actually are a decent size. You can actually see where the spring sat on them.

As for the TG diff armor, I just split the weld they had a bit and got it to the angle I wanted. It should serve its purpose.

Right now I am buried in another project, a 2003 4Runner with a blown 1GR-FE
