To answer your question I did tow my Jeep from Wa to the Rubicon and back with a 97 ZJ.
It pulled it just fine (318 V8) But stopping wasn't the greatest. Not that the vehicle + trailer brakes were shabby, but the trailer tried to take charge during an emergency braking situation on I-5.
It also killed the rear diff in the ZJ.
Sure it pulled the passes fine, and I didn't have any trailer sway (class IV hitch). Got the load on there properly with the tounge weight. It even rung in under the Manufacturers reccomended GCVWR so I was legal.
I kept it slow, 55mph highway and 35 in the winding Ca roads around Tahoe.
Would I do it again? Hell NO.
