I am thinking of doing a raffle. Anyone sending a letter to one of Nancy's bosses could cc it to me. I will put your email address on a ticket and drop it in a bucket. When this becomes a dead issue I will draw the ticket and post the winner here.

ANYONE WANT TO MAKE A DONATION TO THIS FOR THE CAUSE ! I will guarantee you serious advertisement at all my events on all my event flyers and possible if we get a donation soon enough maybe in some magazines

Mudslingers4x4 will donate a $ 50.00 gift certificate from your favorite local shop

Bobby Long has made many generous donations in the past to help with the cause, He donated 3 differant sets of bead locks to help get volunteer's out to make a difference at work parties, I have not asked him yet for anything for this. Actually I have never asked him he has alway's offered.
Support those who support you. www.longfieldaxels.com

It's not really a raffle I am not selling the tickets.

I will be going up to the Eatonville, Elbe, Ashford and Morton communities, Saturday 1 December. I will be handing out flyers to all the businesses letting them know they stand to loose a considerable amount of revenue do to this new rule. On the Fl yer I will put all the contact info. Business owners always seem to make a impact when they realize they might start loosing revenue.

HOPEFULLY I WILL GET WORD FROM NANCY BEFORE THEN THAT THIS IS A DEAD ISSUE.

I am also hearing from DNR that you do not half to be a PNW member to have a say in what happens in Elbe. The community if so chooses can have a representative. and any person that wants to get involved can. We as a community feel that we are being over looked and that our interests are not being protected. It's obvious that the PNW can't fix everything but still you don't have the right to push people around because you have a membership. Please take it some where else.

I have been on the phone all morning with the people who are way higher on the food Chain.
They are writing new laws and I am waiting to hear back from the very people that are writing them. It may not be a law yet and if it is not then this is our chance to educate them there opinions are made from input we need your input. I will post a couple of new phone numbers shortly.

I left a message and haven't heard back yet. He is one of Nancy's bosses.
Everyone should leave a message with this guy. Be friendly we need to let them know we are being DISCRIMINATED against. That we have been using that trail system for years. and that a shorter wheel base will tare that trail up just as bad as a long one.

Also something to think about most of the people that use that system are not shorter wheel base and the fact that there are not many locations that you can take your vehicle to play that are legal and maintained and we want to continue to do that. We have good momentum and we all need to continue to let DNR know we care about our trail and that we want this rule dropped, Please be friendly in all your conversations i know it is a hard thing I am angry also but find that the calm yet very concerned approach gets most conversations to go further.

this hobby is changing. its advancing. its progressing. this is the future, please dont hold that back.:awesomework:

The scary part is this, Gibby and the PNW4WDA has a standing relationship with the DNR, I know that Steve has good intentions, but bum rushing in and calling and emailing everyone has the potential to blow up in everyones face, I just hope the DNR doesn't back out on all the negotiations that has gone on with the improvements on the other trails at Elbe. Don't throw logic and wisdom out the window because you don't like a particular person.

I did have another chat with Nancy today and so far it seems that everyone's being nice. She said they've been agreesive at the outset but just about all the calls have come out OK.

I was asking for a larger meeting location for the next focus group meeting and to see if she can bring her bosses to the meeting. It's a no on a bigger location but she's checking about bringing her bosses as well so that everyone can hear the concerns. I also asked that she not put too much else on the agenda other than this topic so that it can get adequate time.

She is actually very please to finally be getting more input.

She's not dropping the issue, certainly not by Dec 1, but she is willing to look at other alternatives that meet our desires and the requirments of the DNR at the same time. If a better solution can be found she WILL give it strong consideration. Just saying you don't want this but not coming up with an alternative to meet her needs isn't going to fly.

So far, Steve's push to get people into action is working. Like Steve has said many times, be NICE and Nancy will be very reasonable to work with.

elbe has been know as hardcore for along time. now it seems it needs to be restrickted or sissyed down. just doesnt seem right.

I don't disagree about fighting for this trail and doing all that we can to keep it open, but on what planet is this considered a hardcore trail? My first trip to Elbe was in 1988. It was muddy then too and much tighter than it is today. It was only tough, even then, because it was tight. I much prefer Evans Creek and it's certainly not considered 'hardcore'.

That said, Elbe can still be fun place to wheel and we need to fight to keep it open.

Exactly. The relationships we have with these caretakers is delicate at best. Most of the things we want the laws just wont allow. We have managed over the years to maintain a balance and thats the only reason we still have so many trails. Sadly they arnt the kinds of trails we used to enjoy and long gone are the days of just going wherever you want but we still have a great system. Please realize that we are privilaged to use the DNR land its not a right of any sort. The same goes for the meetings we have with them. All of this could come to a screeching halt if were not careful. Point, Take a look at capitol forest. That was taken away with no warning and no willingness to talk about it and we are still locked out:booo: Lets not see this happen at elbe.

I'm curious if the issue about rubbing trees is a "safety" issue, hows about cutting them off at about 8 foot up. Still an "obstabcle" and eliminates the "deadfall" issue.

DNR and/or PNW$WDA hasn't considered this because ???

because their also considered as habitat for the fuzzy critters and having the cover makes for a nicer trail.

oh, cmon ... cutting the three (or maybe five) commonly rubbed trees is NOT going to impact the canopy along that trail.

Since these aren't "for harvest" why should DNR care.

The only downside I see is that eventually that L in the canyon might decompose earlier since the tree was cut and make it "easier" ... so 20 years from now, that root ball (chopped off 8' up) could be decomposed to "make it easy" ... pokey, I suppose you and I will "decompose" first :)

you pose a good argument.:awesomework: Why dont you set up an appointment with the DNR oligests to go out in the field and discuss your ideas. I am sure they will understand. :haha: :haha: :haha: your forgeting who makes the rules.

yea, your right they'll think 5 trees along a trail of hundreds is an impact ...
they will be wrong, but you are correct in that they "make the rules" ...

so, how do I get a job where I can be wrong, make rules, and still get paid ... oh, yea, get a gov job.

BTW, when nancy was escorted thro the trail was the concept of "thinning" these rubable trees discussed?

JR was the one who did 90% of the work on the trail last summer with Nancy. He walked and drove her through several trails I believe.

We did have loggers come out to the last work party to take down a couple of trees that she considered dangerous. The dirt was almost entirely removed from over 50% of the base of one tree and it was doomed to fall down shortly and would have fallen down lengthwise along the trail blocking it off completely. JayH ended up cutting that one down for us.

I wasn't party to any discussion while she was being escorted down the trail. She was absent at the work party the following weekend because she was called out of town to fight a fire. I didn't see her again until a couple months later. The focus of the discussion however was to determine what bypasses needed to be blocked off and which ones we wanted to keep as a legal bypass by hardening them so that they won't deteriorate. The goal is to create legal bypasses so that lesser prepared vehicles can get legally around the most difficult sections and when vehicles are broken they have a reasonable chance of getting them out alive. By doing this we were able to get her to allow us to keep the most difficult sections of the busy rather than paving them. This is the reason for the new bypass around the mudholes at the lowest section of the busy.

We have to do something similar with several other sections as well so that we can keep the difficult parts because some of this is REALLY getting torn up and the winter wheeling season will make a mess of these areas. The spring work parties are going to require a LOT of work :(
