in tha garage blowing smoke...
Ok i have searched for hours and cant find any info on my issue. My driver side hub is slipping back towards free and coming unlocked every once in wile (usually at tha worst time) .. Most of the time its about 3/16" back from lock position..sometimes less, but anyhow i figured you guys would know what i could do or look for ... I did read that some had this problem with spicer hubs and they grind a lil off tha axle stub?? Really?? Any info would be awesome before i take it apart to inspect it. Thanks fellas!! Oh its a GM dana 60 with 35 outters and yukon hardcore hubs if that helps. thumb.gif

I had to adjust the torque on the Allen screws to get mine to work properly. Too tight I couldnt even turn it from free to lock. Too loose they would change by themselves. When called Yukon they had never heard of the problem.

Mine work great but my buddy is having the same issue as you. Yukon also told him they have never heard of it. They want him to send them back for them to check them out.

Thanks fellas. Gonna try checkin tha allen keys .. Kinda funny that yukon tells 2 customers they have never heard about the problem.... Thats just outta tha 100 people that has viewed this thread. Makes me wonder how many people have to call them before they "have heard about it" !!! Man it would suck to have to send back and wait lord knows how long. Thanks for replies guys.

Same thing kept happening to my buddies. Called them and they "never heard of it". He finally got them to stay locked and now he just trailers everywhere ;D

I just installed a set.Torqued to 30 in. lbs. Been on two rides no issues yet. I sure hope these don't turn out like those Dynatrac hubs. I tried a set of those a few years back never did get them to work. Real POS they were!

Sounds like the springs are to weak in them

Just my 2 cents

My springs were a bitch to put in, went much easier with two sets of hands. I haven't had any issues with them coming unlocked, even during heavy use. I have my hubs literally filled with grease as well, the first time I installed them I used a bit less and it was more of a PITA.

Im the guy IndianaCrawler is talking about. I had the same issue you are having.

My axle is an HP D60 1979, rebuilt hub to hub with all new timken bearings/races/seals. New 35 spline chromoly shafts.

I first installed them and drove them down my 300ft road and noticed that the axle shaft was rubbing the cap. So I did what they suggest and ground off some of the shaft to clearance them. No more shaft hitting the cap. But that did not solve all my issues.

Mine would lock but once I was on an obstacle or hard on the throttle they would pop/bang/grind and come unlocked on me. I tried uninstalling them and reinstalling them a few times. But no luck. I flipped what side there were installed on and nothing. I then sent my in for warranty and reinstalled the slugs I had on my shelf.

Another note is that the selector switch was staying in the locked position the entire time this was all happening. And I was able to turn the knob to switch from locked to unlocked.

This is what they sent ECGS after having them for about a month and a half.

To Whom It May Concern,

I received the set of YHC70001 Yukon Locking Hubs sent in for warranty consideration under RGA # 35830. I inspected the part and reviewed it with one of our Quality Engineers and found no manufacturing defect with the parts. We did, however, find that the axles were rubbing on the inside of the selector plates, one more than the other, which we believe caused the issue the customer was having with the part. The end of the axle must have been contacting the back of the plate while driving because there is galling on the back side of the plate. Our hubs are designed with roughly 0.200"-0.300" more clearance than other locking hub kits so this was not a defect in the design.

This could have been caused by several factors. If the incorrect axles were used, it could have caused this. Not using or incorrectly installing the provided the 3/16" nylon flat washer would allow the axle to have some play and potentially contact the plate. Also, if the incorrect bearing/race combination was used, it could have offset the axle and caused the part to function incorrectly. If everything was installed properly and the axle still contacts the case, we recommend grinding the end of the axle down enough to clear the plate in both the "Lock" and "Free" positions.

Since no manufacturing defect was found with the part, warranty is denied. I will ship the gears back to you on Tuesday, December 3rd unless I hear otherwise. I hope you find this explanation satisfactory and clear. If you have any questions, please contact your sales representative.

Thank you,

Warranty/Returns Specialist

I am so livid at Yukon right about now. Luckily ECGS is standing to fight this and they return my money. I am working with ECGS right now to help them get there money back cause I believe this is BULLSH*T!!!

I hope you have better luck then I do.

Another thing I forgot to say was, when I called Yukon and explain this all to them they told me. "I have never heard of such a thing"

Well, kinda embarrassed to say but i dont think i torqued **** win we put them in. Not sure, my memory is shot. To be honest this is kind of discouraging to read this, i'm going to disassemble and torqued them down as stated.. Hope that will work, see most of the time mine was not exactly in the lock position, don't get me wrong it wasn't far off, going to check them out very soon maybe this evening,,, did however buy mine at Summit, I know they are pretty good about returning but not sure how it would work with Yukon involved... Not sure where their home-office is either, something like that would make me want to buy airline ticket out there, like I thought I was going to have to do with the guy that built my driveshaft in California,. I work my ass off for this expensive ****, as we all do im sure and for them to have the audacity to send the part back after you spend so much money on it is absurd. You would think that they could come up with something better than "maybe it's the wrong axle" pffffffff! Wtf!!?? Really hoping I can fix this myself. Hard for me to test tho because it has only done it in pretty messy situations. And all the places anywhere around to ride have been closed off. So gay! Would be just my luck. I really appreciate the info guys. Thanks.

Edit. About torquing it down to 30 pound, my hubs were installed identical to the instructions by Yukon, watched the video on youtube, very cut and dry. Took me almost 30 years to learn to read and follow the instructions very thoroughly..
