evans creek issues

Now dont everybody get their panties in a wad over this. Nothing is set in stone right yet and wont be for a while. This is why as it was brought up in a earlier post we talked about it at our last region meeting. I wanted to come up with a number to present to the FS that represented the "majority" of our users. If you have a concern with this issue then please by all means write a polite e-mail to Bob and explain your point of view. A lynch mob mentality on this will get you nowhere with the FS in fact it will close more doors then it will open.

And I agree, that this should not turn into a pissing match...

Everyone needs to keep an eye on this and post your opinions... The way this is handled by us and the actions we take toward the FS will make or break whatever options we have...

I'm not saying that we can get a width that all of us may agree with, but if we start a **** storm we'll get nothing...
 
That would suck as most of the rigs today would not fit. All you would have is Zooks and some yotas playing with the old CJ"s with small tires. Speaking of tires what are they doing with those? My dad talk to a guy the other day who may be building him some axles for his TJ and he told him that they were think about a 37" max?:corn:
 
Well, I just went out an measured my rig... 75" wide bulge to bulge in the front. Thats with a waggy 44 and 3 5/8" backspaces wheels on 33x12.5's. If you ask me, 72 is too narrow, my stock width rear end with the same wheels and tires are right at 72. This would limit this trail system to Stock width jeeps and maybe stock width toyota's.
 
I like having the idea of a "gatekeeper". Having lived and wheeled in both Colorado and SoCal I can honestly say that a big problem down there is that the trail systems often allow for underbuilt or stock style vehicles to get past points of no return. Those vehicles then get stuck or broken leaving the drivers stranded or, on busy days, the trail absolutely jammed with idling rigs. If having such an obstacle meens that it has to be built a short way into the trail then so be it as long as there is enough space to turn around without allowing for bypasses to be created.
 
I am not aired down right now, but I am about 72" bulge to bulge on the front with Toy axles. So if I get 36, or 37 iroks, and a little wheel spacing, I would probably be screwed.

The atv gate from reiter trails must have been about 72 inches, becouse I could barely squeeze thru.

I've previously stated my opinion on the rule so I will not restate it here...but, did you read any of the thread or the previous thread?

Yes it would make sense that 72" would limit the trail to stock jeeps and toyotas, the rule was written years ago when 33" tires were all but non-existent.

Are you looking for a width that is fair for all vehicles that use the area or a width from PNWFWDA members that use the area?

Lots of guys can't make it to the meetings, so this forum is their voice, along with letters, e-mails, and phone calls.
Lots of people are on a really tight budget right now, and can't make all the work parties etc. If they did, they would never have money to wheel.

This forum is a great place to hash out idea's. Then the people who can make the meetings will have a better idea of what most of the wheelers want for their trails. (That is if they are so inclined to care about what others want.)

Well, Naches is ran by the FS...

If there is a width restriction at Evans, which is also ran by the FS, what keeps them from eventually applying that to other FS areas???

Great point Luey...we need to make sure the width restriction represents the majority of ALL wheelers.

I believe that naches does have width restrictions they just are not enforced. I think it may be the same 72" as evans.

The ORV maps say nothing about width restrictions and they are put out by the sherrif dept that patrols teh areas.

Many years ago when the PNWFWDA was building the trails they gave the USFS the average width of flatfender Jeeps and CJs that were about the only vehicles to use the trails. 40 years later the vehicles have changed but the rules have not.
