Bainbridge Island is available.
Limited access (narrow bridge, ferry depot), pre-existing facilities (may need upgraded), and easily contained (island)

if the could burry the plants about 10,000 feet down in rock:
the "spent" fuel could still be used until its naturaly cold to make steam for the turbins.

if there was a problem it could be sealed from the environment easily. an explossion covers the hole.


remember the china syndrome is fiction and is against the physics here.

As long as it's treated as equally as when I went over and the swine flu thing was going around. There was a major swine flu check before I even departed the planes. Scanners (checking temps) and such, plus we had to fill out paperwork saying if we'd had any kind of fevers or symptoms. Plus the health department called the house every day to make sure I was wearing my masks. :eeek:

Meaning the spent fuel is about to or already has blown up. Depending on winds this could be bad for us. California produces a lot of U.S. food. We don't need a cloud of Radiaton coming over here.

Won't happen, I heard an interview with the Nuclear Professor from MIT last night, he said at Chernobyl the radiation was pushed something like 600 miles, California is something like 5500 miles, also, He said that nothing like that could happen to US reactors because of the safety redundancies that are built in to it.

I just read the words. I didn't make any attempt to verify anything said.

I just thought it was kind of a universal truth, even among dirty hippies, that nuclear power is cheap (that being really its only virtue), so anything that refutes that idea was unexpected, regardless the source.

Like Hanford, and Three Mile Island right? Anyways American Reactors are just as safe as any untill something happens to them. More importantly as shown by the Japanese example the reactor core isn't the only problem. It's the spent rods, cooling tanks, clean up, storage, vitrification processes and transport etc. It's all unsafe.

There are parts of Western Europe where milk, mushrooms and other products are still illegal to transport. Major effects are felt locally. Minor effects are felt in a larger radius.

My point is that even if everything stopped now. We would still feel some kind of spike in radiation. How much is harmfull? Why are so damn many people getting cancer? I think less is better when dealing with isotopes that have 14 million year half lives. No?

Cradle to grave is a concept most people simply can't or won't grasp.

When this concept is considered Nuclear is probably worse than carbon fuels. Cancer, long term storage, accident clean up, etc costs untold amounts of money that almost never get equated into the equation.


The only solution is to kill 99 percet of the worlds population. Then mandate through federal regulators that all inhabitants use prius cars and live in Tee pee's. But you cant use TP or electricity, or any other modern convience except prius cars.

Live off the land kinda like we used to. Just like **** Proenneke did. I would totally be down for that.

Here is where I sit. We all copy and paste these links blindly. I actually do read them and many many more.... I'm worried that what is told is actually the tip of the iceburg in just about any situation. This one being no exception.

Radiation is coming. Period. How much and how it will effect us here in Washington is unknown. There is nothing I can do about it either. That's why this kind of stuff pisses me off so much. Other people make too damn many decisions that effect me GREATLY and I have no power to even kinda stop them. :booo:

I have spent the last couple of days reading and viewing everything I can about chernobyl.

I have also learned a bunch on how the japan plants are built. Its my opnion that using chernobyl incident as a whole as a guage to whats going on in japan is not even in the same realm. For anything drastic to happen in japan lots of things must fail and thats pretty slim. As for us getting exposure to radiation from the incident is also very slim.

But as pat said there is nothing we can do about it--thats just fact. what happens happens but I am not worried.
 
We are going to see radiation. low levels, and they won't effect us much in the near future, who knows about the long term effects to us from this disaster.

This one event isn't really a big deal for us here, true.

It's about the cumulative effect of Chyrnobyl, Fukushima, Hanford, Three mile island, Deepwater Horizon, Exxon Valdez, PCB's, etc, etc.

At what point does the last piece of straw fall?


I'm not a greenie, not even close but come on !!!! Humans are stupid.

Theres a station in tumwater that moniters air quality daily. The news would be all over it if it even jumps a tiny bit. My machine is a older unit for uranium prospecting. I use it when rockhounding at old mining sites that have possible "issues" Never found nothing exciting except downriver from hanford that set it off.

there will be no "last straw" just a lot of different things adding up to bring us a different tomorrow-with different realities than we had yesterday.
