Radial Tires

The pitbulls are the best all around tire for NW wheeling! They wear well on the street too.:awesomework:
I don't know if I would go as far as crowning them the best. Good tire yes, but better that an Irok in all PNW terrain I wouldn't go that far. EDIT, didn't pay attention to the radial thing. If radial is the only option I will side with the PBR's as the sidewalls on the Irok sway the decision for me. Seen too many sidewall punctures in my day. Now bias changes everything.

I was at one point going to run Bias Iroks on the Hutchinson Dual bead lock wheels for winter wheeling and find a radial for summer wheeling.

I've done this before using Boggers and two things stand out. One Bias Ply cold morning flat spots suck on a daily driver and when wheeling in the summer your tires (the ones you compromised street driving for) do not give you the traction off-road you're accustomed to, which also sucks.

I even ran the Boggers only on wheeling days and swapped back to my radials every night after wheeling for driving to work the next day and that really gets old fast, so I won't do that again.

In Canada there is a real difference in vehicle ownership. What I mean by that is most wheelers own just one vehicle which is their daily driver and four wheeler. Few can afford a dedicated trail machine as well as a daily driven car or truck or have can thousands into a buggy just for wheelin. It can be tough financially just maintaining one 4x4 vehicle never mind a second.

Personally I like driving my Jeep with the roof off all year round (well as long as the wind chill doesn't drop below -20 degrees Celsius) and I prefer driving a 4x4 vehicle that has better visibility then in the wife's Subaru. Driving your 4x4 as a daily driver keeps it in a better state of tune IMO as maintenance (hopefully) is being kept up as needed since the vehicle is your main source of transportation and therefore lessons the likelihood of parts failing on the trail when so many more miles are driven on the street.

So that is why my choice has to be a Radial tire and since the Radial Iroks do not have a 3Ply sidewall in the 37"x12.50"x15" size I'm going to give the PBR radials a try.

Thanks to all who posted up their great info and experiences it's all really helped me to decide on what should be a great all around wheeling tire.

Well in all this discussion I just realized that I'm not sure if the Radial Rockers come with a 3Ply sidewall in the 37"x12.50"x15" size and the Pitbull website does not offer up that info.

So I called the Pitbull tire factory and await a call back and will update this post as soon as I know.

I'm surprised Wes (Indefatigable on here) hasn't popped in with his .02 :eeek:
He also lives in Canuckia land :redneck: (Surrey IIRC), and is a member of The Herd...He's been running the 37" PBR Radials on his DD/wheeler LJ for a few yrs now with narry an issue, still ~40% I believe. With at least one trip to The Rubicon, and one to Brown's Camp that I know of...

My PBR's are that exact size and they say 3 ply on the sidewall.:awesomework:

Well alright then I'm for sure going with PBR Radials in 37"x12.50"x15".
Discount Tire in Wenatchee can get them for $334 ea. does anyone have any other suggestions on where to buy?

That's a decent price. How long will it take to get them?

All around! I stand by that, how long will the Irok's last on a street driven truck? :corn:
The Irok's might have a bit better traction, but nowhere near the service life or sidewall toughness of the PBR's. :swing:

Discount said "with a $100 deposit it would take five business days", so if all goes well I'll be picking them up late next week. I received permission from the Warden, excuse me I mean Wife so the order should go in tomorrow or Thursday this week.:awesomework:

Now my dilemma is how to fit them with only a two inch lift and w/o hi-line fenders. :stirpot:

Keep us posted I'm curious to see if they show up in that short of time.

Okay I just found a fair deal on some BFG Krawlers (75% tread remaining) 35"x13.50"x15" and need to know how these would work in the snow. I would probably do some grooving and siping, but will that be enough to come close to the performance of PBR Radials or Iroks in the snow?

Thanks again for the input everyone.

Not a fan of the Krawlers' sidewalls...They're ok when grooved, but I would say the PBR's and Iroks fair better in stock form...

I know the sticker rubber of the maxxis suck in the snow ask Dirk.:redneck:
