My daughter will be getting good at hauling **** :redneck:

I just got the pasture fencing all done and the horse will have no choice but to go over the bridge.

Hardship only makes those who choose to be stronger--we have chosen that route. Bob was a good guy and I was the only guy he ever trusted.

Its been allot of work to this point and we still have allot to do but well worth it.

Odd thing though is we started trying to organize whats in the 2 shops and it just feels weird going thru everything--guess thats just a normal reaction.

Ive done that a few times. I like parting out rigs, but I have NEVER enjoyed parting out a loved ones life/history. Its a very odd feeling. :eeek:

On the other side, I LOVE helping to clean out OLD properties of interesting people. Its almost is if you get to know a person you have never met by reading their collected items of the past. I love the feeling of finding an item that I know the family would like and seeing their face light up when ya hand it to them.

Its totally different tho if it was a person that I knew. Just very odd dismantling a life of someone close to you.

She is an only child so its just us. Good thing no problems having to deal with those family members who seem to go a little crazy over these events but the bad she has nobody left now.

Its funny though the odd things you learn after a loved one is gone. Bob had the same problem my dad did--collector of stuff and with bob it was always "because it was a good deal" that sat there afterwards.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. My entire family appreciates them. I have good days and bad days and I am trying to be as strong as I can. I've spent the last 6 years helping take care of my parents, and it's hard not to feel empty now.

Michael has done an amazing job on the barn and I am so proud of all of his hard work. Seeing life brought back into it and having a horse around again has helped a lot.

So some updates...... I got the fencing all done..

Was kinda worried how the horse would handle the bridge. She took about 5 minutes to finally cross it and made some funny noises. Now she goes back/forth on it with no hesitation. She is a happy horse now..

So I did some more dirt moving--I am slowly getting better at it and doing ok with only having a bucket--but I have more to learn on it. So I did ok leveling out the dog area--added some dirt to give it a little slope. I still gotta finish the roof and add a gutter so I can control the water.

So I also hit paydirt on my ditch. When the place was built there was a drain put in that went from someplace near the house and out behind the barn and down into the pond. Me and bob found it many years ago. Well a few years ago bob was pretty sure it was plugged due to standing water in places. Well when I was digging the ditch I cut into it (it was made with a hexagonal pottery type material/bright orange). Once I dug the dirt out if it a constant flow of water started(must have been plugged down stream). A little further up the ditch I also hit a pressure point and had water pouring out of the ground. I have to finish the ditch where I stopped and run a covert across the access to the horse pasture.

So I have had to switch gears. We need to start clearing out the old place and moving stuff but we need room to store stuff so we can figure out what needs to go and what stays. So bob had these just sitting and damn are they heavy. So for the last 4 days I have been working on these. I empty one organizing all the bolts as I go, move it and then put the bolts back in(They are so heavy I can barely even move them). Well I am half way thru it. All the grade 5 stuff is done and I have the same amount in grade 8. Pretty impressive collection and should be a nice addition to the new crashfab.

So switched gears again,lol. I hate not having our dogs here yet so I started working on there area which needs some serious attention--mainly water control. The area between the barn and the first shop has allot of sitting water--gotta get it moving outa there.

I ended up digging almost 90 feet of ditch. Since there is always allot of water around the entrance to the first shop I ran the ditch out and around. I also am going to move the down spouts for the gutters so I ran drain pipe to those locations and then over to the barn for the new gutter (removing the rain water that comes off the barn alone will help a ton).

Within an hour it was flowing water into the big ditch.

So I finally got the gutter done on the barn. With all the rain and working late it took longer than I wanted (impressive how quickly you get soaked,lol) and was tricky doing the stringers on the barn to hold the gutter.

I have a large stack of those square 4" blocks--why not use them I always say.

I got the front fencing done for the dog area and figured a gate was a good idea. I also NEVER use cement on my post's--I have always done the gravel packing method--ranchers and farmers have doe this for years and I have had great luck for a long time doing it. At the gold bar house I had to use bricks under the gate to keep the dogs from digging under it--figured I would do that right outa the gate (no pun intended,lol).

Also at the gold bar house I used t-post's with the same 2x4 welded fencing and hated it so this time I chose to use 4x4 post's.

So today I was able to get all the posts in for the back part of the fence and the fencing started.

So I got the fencing all done finally. There must be a trick to doing it to getting it tight top/bottom--I did ok. The one mistake I made was doing a long stretch. Since the post's were not inline and the ground has an odd slope it was near imposable to make them all level--should have done shorter sections.

Going to give it a couple days for the ground to dry up and do the hotwire and they will come home on saturday.

So there is a leak somewhere in the water system to the yard/barn. I found like 4 water valves in the ground and made it hard to tell what section was leaking. One of the valves was actually broken so I started there by eliminating a section and a valve. I finally found a water hydrant way down in the lower area that was leaking at the base.

Here's what I have done for stretching that wire fencing. Take two 2x4's and bolt them together over the end of a section. Loop a rope over both ends, then hook a come-a-long up to the center of the rope and the other end to something solid, (truck, tractor, wheeler, tree, etc.) Crank it tight then nail it off. You don't want to stretch it super tight because you will pull the first post out of the ground.

Shorter runs like what you are doing are more difficult than stretching a 100' at a time.
