Race Yota 4653

The Sturgis race was awesome. Got there setup the garage and got ready for prerunning. The next day we did some prerunning and qualifying with no issues. Saturday was prelim and the main. We flopped the truck durring the prelim but got recovered and finished. Rolled into the garage and got the truck straightened out for the main. Started the main and cruised around for 5 laps with no issues. Overall great race and a great time.

Is the course more of a short course? How long is a lap? Any rock?
It was considered a short course style race with lots of turns. Each lap was between 2 and 3 miles in length and from what I watched it seemed most of the races were between 7-10 laps in total length. There was one small rock section (smaller than the AOP rock section in the grass field) that did not appear very challenging, but still managed to take out a couple of tires.

:dblthumb: What changes do you have up your sleeve before KOH 22'?
The suspension will be the first thing we address. Right now we are in the process of having custom shocks and bumps made by ADS with help from a local shop Filthy Motorsports. I will be pulling the TG leaf springs off the truck and replace them with something more suitable for racing.
After nationals in October we will be looking into engine performance, possibly forced induction.

Got any updates?

Above you mentioned forced induction. I assume you'd go turbo, so does the stock class limit turbo sizes etc?
No, stock class doesn't limit turbo size. If it was a factory option you can run it. The rules don't really go into anymore details, which is nice.

Recently we have prepping for nationals and been getting the leaf springs swapped out. We now have Sky's Offroad Design supporting our race program.

At least they allow turbos and straight axles.
The ECORS series would only allow powertrain options that were available with the specific chassis/suspension

I knew the rules were kinda vague on turbo sizes but cool that it's an option.

Good luck at Nationals. Will be watching from the house.

Toyota put the 22RET( turbo) in some of the last solid axle trucks they made. When I raced ECORS I got the thumbs up from Travis to turbo my 22r on propane because of this OEM option.

Hmm. I wasn't aware of that option and was told the opposite when I inquired. But that was like 8 years ago, so yeah.

They are rare trucks, I have seen 2 factory solid axle, turbo 4runners in person. The ECORS races ended and I never boosted the engine.

Here is one of my old ECORS highlight shots lol.

2021 Ultra4 Nationals race recap:
We made it with no issues from CO to OK with enough time to do some pre-running Thursday. Sheared a leaf spring center pin but got it replaced in time for qualifying.
Qualifying Friday went well - truck had no issues but started near the back.
Saturday was a great race day - good weather, awesome course! We didn't have to pit, get out of the truck, or winch all day. The skys offroad leaf springs made a big difference in ride quality. The driver front fender suffered some damage when I hit a tree and we sheared the traction bar bolts at some point. We finished the race in 7th place out of 12.

All them hamster powers sheered those suckers right in half. Well done!

Thanks for the recap and pictures. What is on the agenda to fix/upgrade before KOH 2022?

Fix all the broken stuff. Adjust the suspension for new ADS shock package. Disassemble, clean, inspect, reassemble and race prep the truck.
