Race Yota 4653

Hardline Crawlers - Rock Bouncer Builds, Tech & Off-Road Trail Talk

Help Support Hardline Crawlers:

No, stock class doesn’t limit turbo size. If it was a factory option you can run it. The rules don’t really go into anymore details, which is nice.

Recently we have prepping for nationals and been getting the leaf springs swapped out. We now have Sky’s Offroad Design supporting our race program.

I knew the rules were kinda vague on turbo sizes but cool that it’s an option.

Good luck at Nationals. Will be watching from the house.

At least they allow turbos and straight axles.
The ECORS series would only allow powertrain options that were available with the specific chassis/suspension

Toyota put the 22RET( turbo) in some of the last solid axle trucks they made. When I raced ECORS I got the thumbs up from Travis to turbo my 22r on propane because of this OEM option.

Hmm. I wasn't aware of that option and was told the opposite when I inquired. But that was like 8 years ago, so yeah.

They are rare trucks, I have seen 2 factory solid axle, turbo 4runners in person. The ECORS races ended and I never boosted the engine.

Here is one of my old ECORS highlight shots lol.

2021 Ultra4 Nationals race recap:
We made it with no issues from CO to OK with enough time to do some pre-running Thursday. Sheared a leaf spring center pin but got it replaced in time for qualifying.
Qualifying Friday went well - truck had no issues but started near the back.
Saturday was a great race day - good weather, awesome course! We didn't have to pit, get out of the truck, or winch all day. The skys offroad leaf springs made a big difference in ride quality. The driver front fender suffered some damage when I hit a tree and we sheared the traction bar bolts at some point. We finished the race in 7th place out of 12.

All them hamster powers sheered those suckers right in half. Well done!

Thanks for the recap and pictures. What is on the agenda to fix/upgrade before KOH 2022?

Fix all the broken stuff. Adjust the suspension for new ADS shock package. Disassemble, clean, inspect, reassemble and race prep the truck.

Does the fire suppression only activate when you pull the handle, or are their heat/smoke sensors too?

I see that you are running a LP front. Maybe I missed it along the way, but why not HP? It's obviously holding up well, just curious. Also, is that a TG trunnion eliminator that broke?

Yes, pull handle activation only.

I have never really had any issues that made me upgrade to HP diffs. If I can get a good deal on a set I will upgrade.

Yes, TG trunnion eliminator pin. That pin is about 5 years old.

Fluids, nuts and bolts.

KOH 2022 was awesome! We got the shocks and air bumps dialed in with a lot of help from ADS, Ruffstuff and my crew. We worked through some valve cover venting issues and were ready. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 go! We were off to a good start headed to Turkey Claw. 4693 got stuck in front of us, we tried to go around, got stuck and passed by everyone. We worked our way to pit 1 with no issues then off to Cougar Buttes. Worked our way through the rocks and headed through the desert back to pit 1 again. The truck had no issues going into pit1 the second time, we took fuel and headed out. My co-driver missed the right turn back to Hammer town and we started lap 2 by mistake. We made our way to Spooners got stuck, realized we DQed, got ran over by some 4500 cars then made our way out. Got the truck to the start of Outer Limits, linked up with a broken 4800 car and drove out to pit 2. Found our front right shock was broken, removed it and drove back to HammerTown.
The shock is being rebuilt by ADS, the truck is going to get a new rear axle housing, the shock mounts are going to be redone, we have some comms issues to work out and I am looking for a new co-driver. Overall great time with some great people.

Seriously, bummer it turned out the way it did, but glad to hear you had fun. Stock class is my favorite to root for !

More pictures from KOH. The truck is now black and the front shock mounts are being redone to maximize the full travel of the ADS shocks.
