Unofficial DNR/Reiter Rocky Buggy

I'm donating my buggy car to the ORV comminuty.....kinda of.

Just got back from the Reiter Restoration work party......trans-planted 50+ ferns, moved some logs........it was lame.:redneck: No, it was a productive day.:awesomework: After finishing up, we all chatted about the next work party.

We're going to restore the Sac-Up trail. There are many logs that must be moved, along with moving some soon-to-be-downed dead fall. It was suggested there will be a need for 3-4 capable rigs to move the logs around and position them. Doing this by hand is an arduous task and needs many volunteers to be done in timely manner. David (DNR) asked the group what might be the best route to go about this. Charlie suggested using a few buggy's and a few others for winch duty. Well, doing it with winches, chains and straps is.......well, we all know how that is.:looser: Fun and challenging, but not as efficient as it could be. There is ALOT of work like this, to be done EVERYWHERE!

I volunteered to be at this next work part with my vehicle for the task of moving logs.......along with other vehicles, doing the same.

Then Eric and I started discussing what gear we'll need (Eric and I had a very successful Trail Restoration months back, on Trail Of Doom). Also, getting a log hauler/clamper thingy (I'm not a logger::kissmyass and how to mount this contraception on the rear of my buggy.

On the drive home my Money wheels just started a turn'n.....here is my proposition, my commitment, my donation.

My rig has always been and forever will be for the people, by the people.

If you'll let me?.....I will "donate" and subject my vehicle to be created into a trail restoration and trail building workhorse for Reiter.:beer: And I will either operate it at ALL Reiter work parties, when it's needed. Or allow use by a trusted individual to operate it. I will still own this vehicle, house this vehicle, be responsible for this vehicle........and guarantee I will still treat it like **** and wheel the piss out of it regularly.:cheer:

What I'm looking for------I'm looking for volunteer fabrication, parts and time.

Any interest? I am talking about figuring out which typical logging devise (or something alike in principal) would work best, mounting this device on my buggy, and all the necessary parts, equipment, tools, fabrication know-how, and shop time to do all of this. I am VERY open to how far this could be develpoed......donations of others (And You:awesomework will be the final factor.

And unfortunately we're on a 2 week time schedule. While I'm sure Sac-Up can wait (it can)......REITER CAN NOT WAIT!

This could very well be the best gift we ever give Reiter Pit. Lord knows, I know 'er well.:;

We should all discuss our (my) options......lets here it. I''m ready to ****ing do this!:clappy:

Usage for other projects/ORV areas (open to it)
Operation by others than myself (open to it)
Vehicle Specs (it's not registered, etc)
Using my vehicle for other tasks (moving large rocks, mass of rocks on small trailer, etc)

I am available too, my truck has a Warn M15,000lb winch on the back and is pretty tall. I worked with David to drag a truck with no axles under it through a trail, he knows what it can handle.

I have another Warn M15,000 for the front that will be on soon too.



What your buggy needs is a rear A-frame hoist. Get 4 bolt on tube clamps, some tube/pipe/whatever, a snatch block and a small winch. I can help do fabwork but I live about an hour from Reiter.

It's not that other vehicle's aren't needed for work, but hear me out.......

One of the reasons my rig is ideal for these types of projects is it can tip-toe around these sensitive areas........If we're gonna just "rip **** up" we may as well just take the time and do it by hand. Know what I mean?

And rear steer is unbeatable with moving logs and **** around with minimal damage to the area......:;

Yes....I'm sure there will be many posts by others recommending how to do it. The how-to-do-it will be taken care of by the volunteers who actually do it.:;

I'm going to direct our focus more toward the donation and volunteer aspects of my post.

Some sort of Gin pole setup would be ideal IMO.

simple chain/choker setup should be able to move some decent size logs with a winch on the vehicle. can you post a side profile shot of the buggy? just a winch in the front i imagine?

OH, and i have a driveway,a welder, bender, and grinders/saws and junk. This sort of thing shouldnt take to long to clammer together. A full day if that with a few people. We can definitly use my driveway. Im in kirkland/juanita area. have a Bigass carport that we could do work in if its raining, and my welder reaches out there :awesomework:

For now, I'm not so concerned about the technical aspects until there are actual volunteers to do the work and supply the materials.

This will be a volunteer group effort....like the work parties themselves.

I can supply welder/consumables, grinder/saw consumables, and technical know how/welding & fabrication time. I would love to help make the buggy a tree hauler :redneck: I am going to look into the technical aspects/preferrable geometry of these contraptions. I saw a few kinds on that link, and am gonna look into it more.

Material donations ? Some thick Poop pipe would probably be sufficient Dont need to throw DOM at it :redneck: and it could definitly be removable. I have enough misc. plate to make all the brackets that we would need, and I have some Tube Clamps from Clark that we could use to make it removable iff'n you want to Just no material for the actual "mast" of the crane.

If the design involves a receiver style winch mount, I have a new one (receiver hitch) from a chevy I would donate, also one stick of schedule 80 poop pipe with a 90 bent on one end.

I'm thinking being able to tow a small utility trailer would be useful and less damage to other rigs and the terrain........besides with RS you can back it up to ANYWHERE easy.

We will be cautious to not "worry" the DNR with our design (or lack of design) and safety.

I envision the final product being be "small" and safe.
