Spun bearing?

In reference to a connecting rod bearing it means the bearing is worn to the point where the bearing comes loose and spins inside the rod journal. Usually one half of the bearing will spin and overlap the other half....The crankshaft journal is toast at this point and must be machined at the very least. You aren't fixing it with the crankshaft still in the vehicle......It can also mean a bearing race is spun inside a pressed fit orifice. Usually "spun bearing" is about the rod bearing though..

How dumbed-down do you want? :D

The bearing has two halves, that fit into the connecting rod and the cap that bolts onto the end of the rod. If the bearing "spins", something isn't working right.

Quick GIS - you can see the two halves of the bearing and they're not in the correct orientation.

It depends on what bearing.

With either a main or rod you need to get the crank turned.

If its a main most of the time the block is damaged and needs replaced. If its a rod then you will want the rod re sized.

So, until you open it up, you can't really tell? That's what you're saying?

mmm I may rethink this possiblilty for a tow rig...
If the seller thinks it has a spun bearing, I would pass on that. You're paying someone shop rates to fix that and it will probably be spendy.

What are you trying to figure out?

I'm just trying to figure out if buying a heavy duty truck that might need a little engine work is worth it. Truck is only $1900, but in running condition sells for 3x that.

And asking about the Spun bearing term? A little education on my part, as well as that what the guy 'thinks' might be wrong with it.

This one of those things, I would take a trained mechanic with me to listen to it, if it runs, to determine where any rattle comes from. Mind you, this is a diesel, so rattle is part of the norm. I'm guessing, a bad bearing sounds a little different.

I wonder where I can find a good GM Diesel mechanic?

Take it to a good shop regardless.

Could be an injector.

With the 6.2/6.5 its EXTREMELY hard to differ from a rod knock and an injector knock.

Guys. thanks for your help. I just noticed the guy is copying the same ad over and over, with pictures off of a website.

Me thinks he's a scamming...

Yeah, all the pictures are from JLMB Government Liquidation website.
