Moved the thread into the GARAGE, where stuff like this belongs...:awesomework:
I've done a couple homebuilt armours...Almost can't tell, except the steel sticks out another 3/8" beyond stock! Here's a couple pics...

Thats asinine... If your running solid wire and have no shielding gas your weld will be brittle and can break. The lack of shielding gas allows air pockets to form in the weld and the weld puddle itself will suck in particles and gases in the air around you the second it cools. It can crack, easily.

I hope you don't actually weld anything that will need to be strong, if you run out of gas.

Other than that, i like the armor!

yes, i switched to non gas wire:awesomework: thank tho:beer:

Flux core wire, in the hands of a skilled operator, is used some times for structural welding and is not a "bad" way to do things. Its just not all that clean like when you use a shield gas. Just dont use solid wire without gas, I asure you that those welds are not strong. I had a porous weld on my buggy rear axle link mount that I thought at the time would be just fine... it ended up costing me a night of wheelin at the hammers.

Leave nothing to compermise... I know that this is not a major part of your rig and if it fell off that you probably would not even notice tell you got home but... I no longer half ass anything... I cant really explain the imbarrassment of calling myself a fabricator and having my **** fall apart. :looser:

Keep on practicing and building stuff man. Most off the people will talk **** about something you made when they should be trying to give you some constructive criticism instead. Its just so cool these days to call yourself a "fabricator" that when somebody can actually fab something they think there so much better of somebody else that might lack in that area. Some it just kinda comes natural and others have to work on it for a long time just to be ok at it. Why do you think there's fab shops..... Keep truckin and it will get better with time :awesomework:

That's my rant for the day :D

hey thanks guys, love the encouragement! :D and i have more fabbing to come, gonna make some half doors, rocksliders and a rear bumper for my new 79 yota. i will post pics when i do.
