What trailer Do I Need

I have a 1 ton Tj that is on stickies that I need to be able to tow. I have an 08 F250 so moving everything isn't the problem.

I want to say I have seen a trailer that has the ability to tow two jeeps but is not freaking 30' long. Most of the time it will be one. The design I remember was a ramp that went to the goose neck and that is where one jeep sat while the other jeep was on the deck.

That a safe and smart idea? If so who makes something like that or if I do it myself how long would the trailer need to be. I just don't won't all that length so I am looking at maximizing the space. I don't won't to store 30 ft of trailer on an acre lot as well...lol.

What do yall think?
 
I would not be comfortable with a rig up on the top of the gooseneck. That wold be a lot of weight up high and a lot of weight on the rear of the truck.

Not on top but like a lean to.Rear pointed at the deck and front pointing into the air.

You would need airbags on your f250 in the rear to do what u want. Unless you put a really light rig on the front of the trailer. You probably saw a weg style 20 or 24 foot car hauler trailer or a gooseneck with homemade ramps in front. You can squeeze to rigs on a 24 foot gooseneck.
 
I dont think any trailer manufacturer builds a trailer with a ramp on the gooseneck.

Also, I would NEVER pull one like that with a single rear wheel truck. That's a lot of top heavy weight.

Just buy a regular 16-18' trailer and tell your buddy to get his own tow rig! :flipoff1:


A 27-30 foot gooseneck really isn't "that" big...
 
big tex has a 5th wheel/ goose kneck that the front part of the dove tail is longer than normal and it mean for a vehicle to sit on it.. i think this is what your saying?

it's my brother and he has his first jeep and on 33's. next year wanna head out west and let him hitch a ride and split the fuel.

I'll give it a look. If it's not a good idea then I'll pass. rather be safe.

If I choose a single, goose or bumper pulling...or makes no difference.

That's cool, splitting fuel helps. I've got a 32' Kaufman bumper pull that I drag my buddy's rigs around on, or pull the race truck and crawler at the same time.

I get about 15-17 mpg towing one rig on my 20' trailer, or 11-13 mpg pullin 2 trucks on the 32'.
 
i have pulled a wedge with two rigs, putting airbags on truck made big difference, in a good way. i have pulled a 20' gooseneck with two trucks on it, one sitting with the front tires on top of the upper deck like you are saying. i just made small ramps to get it up there. definately more top heavy, could be felt pretty good while driving at times. if you must do that, then drive a little slower and take curvy roads with caution, speed is not your friend with a load that high. later i bought a 25' gooseneck for two rigs, same reason as you, 20' flat, 5' dovetail with fold down ramps. if i put the first rigs tires against front of the gooseneck, then tires to tires i had to strap the ramps up against the last set of tires. they leaned back slightly. this was with two toyota buggies. next i had a 30' gooseneck. it would drag at times, but i didnt care and there was room to haul all kinds of crap. so when we went on long trips i would actually take a couch, roll of carpet, cooking grill and other crap. lol my advice is to put air bags on your truck and buy a 28' gooseneck and you will be happy in the long run. just my experience, hope it helps.
 
BIG tex 20 ft deck with an extra 6 foot of ramp ...seems to pull better than the tandem wheeled trailer i had pulled before this..weighs 14,000 loaded with two jeeps.Hers a pic of the trailer with jeep and buggy.

Never heard anyone ever say "I bought too much trailer". Go gooseneck and get one 6" longer than you think you need

I said it.

I went from a 42' to a 32' Too heavy, to hard to manuever ANYWHERE. Both pulled like a dream, but dropping 10' made the new one 100x's more nimble and easy to pull anywhere that wasnt straight line interstate.
 
just a thought but has anybody tried backing a rig up on the gooseneck keeping the engine down closer to the deck instead of up high in the air and could back the second rig on also to take some more weight off the hitch to better ballance the load :dunno:
 
still about same amount of weight on the hitch, it still will smash the guts out of a F-250, weak rear springs to begin with. A trailer that both fits on deck is a wise choice.
 
It's a lot easier to fit rigs that don't have overhang.

I could barely fit 2 toyotas on a 27' trailer (had to tie ramps up against bumper) because of the front and rear bumper overhang.
 
Forgive the crappy cell phone pic but it was getting dark: Below is my 30' (25' + 5" dove) 14k trailer with my LJ and a friends TJ. I had two 35x12.50 MT strapped to teh front and the rear tire is sitting on teh first couple of feet of the dove tail. The trailer weighs about 4500 lbs which gives me 9500obs of payload capacity. I could get by with a shorter trailer but this gives me flexibility to adjust loads or tow longer vehicles. I have put both my LJ and a Grand Cherokee on it with room to spare. Limiting yourself to the smalles trailer you can squeeze two TJs on may limit your options in the future if you ever get a different ride with a longer wheelbase (or you friend, brother, cousin, buddy, etc does).
