I need to start gathering guages for my junk soon and know nothing about them. I'm going to be using all mechanical gauges with lights for visibility at night. Other than looks which would be individual preference what should I look for in a quaulity gauge?

Autometer all the way :****: and cruise around ebay thats where I got all mine for near nothing. Most of them I have under 30 some 20 bucks in them.

Yep Autometer all the way. Look at their site find a style you like and start shopping around.

Decide if you want to run mechanical (less expensive, more pain) or electrical (more expensive, easier to install) gauges.
Decide what all you want to monitor. Basics I would say are water temp, oil pressure, voltmeter, tach, trans temp (if auto).
Post up specific questions as you have them.

Definitely add a Trans temp gauge. You'd be amazed how fast it climbs sometimes. I couldn't find one in the style I liked so I used an oil temp gauge instead.

Looking at autometers install maunuals for electric vs manual I think I'll be going electric. Trans temp has been another concern for me so I will be running one for sure. Thanks for the help thumb.gif

i have autometers, although I have no idea how well they work since they are still sitting in my box of buggy parts.... :****: oil pressure, water temp, volts, trans temp

I've been working on guages lately. Went with autometer pro comp ultra lights. Summit prices were about the same as eBay except for the tach. Got it used on eBay for $20. A new silver pro comp ultra light tach is almost $200.
