Post up some pics of your first rig that you did some upgrades yourself.
How about posting up something on that rig that you would be embarrassed if anyone seen today.

Maybe it will help us be kinder and gentler if we all remember what we started with.

Re: Pics of your first rig

I'll add a pic if I can find it. When I put my "cage" in my YJ it didn't line up and I used 2x4 wood to fill the gap between cage mounting plate and floor.
Top that!

Re: Pics of your first rig

My cage was my first welding project..... :****:

I have no digital pics from back then, kinda glad

Im not scared to show my bootyfab, this was one ugly cage I threw together out of frustration of not knowing what I was doing. Had some ugly welds too boot.

This thread could get interesting if people are honest, look where Jimmy Smith came from to where he is now.

The 1st cage I made was in high school. I used electrical tape an foam pipe insulation to cover up the welds. A lot of tape. Lol

I learned how to bend, notch, and weld tube on my first cage. There were more than 1 bolt used as filler in the joints. Somehow, that thing actually held up.

I wish I had pics I had a 67 bronco that I rebuilt when I was 16 it had the small 9" in the rear I broke it twice the second time I put a 97 f-150 8.8 in the rear miss matched wheels (stock Steel 17's painted black) with 2wd leafs spun around backwards! They went from under the driver seat to the back of the frame flexed great! Oh and the best part was 4" angled blocks to level it front to back, welded spring perches on at the wrong angle so had to run the angle to the front to get the pinion down!

Just look at those tube fenders and as you can see those gray tubes in the roof helped sooo much.

Ultimately put out to pasture then scrapped after links, sas, 39s, and a pile of ring and pinions.

This was the first rig I built I spent countless nights reading and putting this contraption together with a little mig welder , chop saw , torches, and a 6" grinder. Had a lot of fun in this buggy /death trap. But learned a lot never will forget when I built the three link for it I was so proud but I built just that a three ( no ****ing pan bar so you know what it did first turn out of the garage ).

Version 1.0 pics are all way before fancy phones. I have a few laying around but not readily accessible.

I learned a lot building this Jeep 3x. Most of what o learned was what NOT to do. I regret ever taking it apart and watching it depart piece by piece. I'd still rock the hell out of it if I had the chance!

The last 2 post had some nice rigs for their first, much nicer than mine, hopefully I can dig out some early pictures of my junky Toyota or Nissans

My first and current rig. I really didn't know anything about vehicles ot welding until building it. I know, it's ugly, but it works good for Arizona wheeling.

I'd consider this to be booty fab compared to most on here... I've learned a lot though, re wired the whole truck, bent my first cage/bumpers and learned how much I hate body work while shortening the bed.
