How screwed is my 7.3?

You just about can't kill a 7.3 Mine has over 300k on it and I am just now about to upgrade the injectors.
Eh horseshit.... I've had 4 fail in under 100,000 miles....

That said, I hope your good luck continues and maybe just maybe my bad luck can improve.

That's awesome shows how tuff ford is. If that been a dodge the motor would have lock up and the tow mirror would have fell off

Ford had nothing at all to do with the 7.3 being tough.... You can thank international for that.

X2. If you've killed one 7.3 in less than 100k you've done the near impossible. 4? Hmm I smell some trolling bullshit. Sounds like one of them Texas fishing stories. It's a big ole dump truck load of horse ****. You any relation to a douche that drives a batman themed buggy?

Oh I see. I was gonna say. How dafuq is he killing 7.3's. If he's had 4 injectors go down under 100k he's getting water in his fuel or he's running shitty filters. 7.3 injectors are good for 300k+. I'd be looking for a cause.

Yep, 322,000 on mine. Alot of those miles grossing 23,000 lbs. I am going to go look at another 7.3 after Christmas that has 340,000, priced right. Will buy it if everything checks out.

I own 3 of these and are tough as ****, just had unlimited diesel put cups in mine and had em put they're heavy duty ad injectors In and holy hell what a difference, never thought a excursion could run this good, sumbitch will run, my neighbors company truck has almost 600k and motor has never been apart, 2 sets of injectors cause of bad fuel and a 6 speed tranny and a rear end but they drive it every day, if anybody looking for a injector upgrade give unlimited a call. Great guys and one of the best injector builders in the country

First one actually didn't have to be replaced... spot weld fell out of oil pickup and was suckimg air so stopped running...had to pull engine to replace it
Second one an injector failed and hydro locked #8 shattered rings and scored cylinder...
Third one cracked a piston and scored cylinder...
Fourth one I actually didn't count because it was all my fault... Working late without much sleep and dropped a nut in an intake port... Fished it out and didn't realize I had actually dropped TWO nuts.... Lodged under a valve damaging piston, valve, head, and even chipping the block.
Fifth one, the air intake heater cracked apart and half of the coil went into the engine and beat up and cracked a piston...

I also didn't mention the 4r100 trans dying on me... I also didn't mention the zf6 that I swapped in dying a horrible death due to a broken cooler line.

At one point it also stranded me when the PCM suddenly died... Another time the NEW turbo came apart in less than 6 months
I have rebuilt, replaced, or otherwise had to work on nearly every component of this truck....yes I do work it hard but I've never had or even heard of any other vehicle this needy.

I have had some really horrible luck with this thing.... Most of it I chalk up as just crap luck... But they CAN break.... Like I said tho hopefully other folks good luck continues and good greif I hope mine gets better....

If you want you can search my username on PSN... It isn't all documented but about half of it is.

EDIT: btw I bought it w 289,000 and it turned over 370,000 two days ago.

So your "less than 100k" started at 289k. :wtflol:

Old wore out **** is old wore out ****

I didn't have to do much anything to my dmax in 250k miles, but it was about to become a needy bitch so I dumped it. Dude that got it knew what he was getting into and was prepared to dump $5-6k in it from the get-go

I never SAID the trucks were useless junk ... I SAID they can be broken....

When you replace the same part multiple times it makes no difference whether the truck has 10 miles or 10 million....

That said, I had a 91 chevy 1500 used to tow more than it should w a gas 5.7 and a 700r4 that got over 300,000 miles on the original engine and had the trans replaced once.... I parted it out n put the drivetrain into a 2500 and got another 80,000 before trading it in on my 7.3 in 2008.

Thought I would update this, I have put on 12K miles since this happened and everything is still running great. I got an oil test done by blackstone labs and It said that everything is within specifications and the engine is healthy. I plan on installing a balebed on it for more versatility on the ranch and might fix up the seats, has some tears in the seats. I also put some black soft 8 17'' rims and 35 12.50 kenda klevers. Put a new black grill on it too. Really love this truck and plan on keeping forever.

And here I'm in the middle of pulling the engine AGAIN.... this time it's a cracked timing cover leaking antifreeze....

sounds like you need to quit working on it and pay someone reputable to do it lol

Right..... a magician..... someone who can magically stop a timing cover from cracking.....
