Recently, Mark Mauren requested ORV users to suggest how many miles of trails should exist within the areas they frequent. I threw out the number of 100 miles for 4x4s, and 150 miles of singletrack/atv.
What do you think? is 100 miles of 4x4 enough for walker? Here are some criteria I'm thinking of when thinking of mileage:
While 100 miles of trail seems like a lot, it really isn't. with a 20ft corridor, 100 miles of trail is equivalent to ~250 acres. Walker is about 6000 acres. While there are areas that aren't available ( > 40% grade, streams, riparian zones, wetlands, etc), there is still a lot of acreage available.
Once we come up with an idea of what we want, we need to have each and every person emailing DNR requesting this amount. This will help convince the legislature to allocate budget for trail mileage.
I'd suggest users of other areas to come up with their own threads to figure out a good number of mileage they'd like to see in their area.

- Variety of trail difficulty
- Enough trail for a weekend
- enough trail to discourage unauthorized bypasses/trails
- enough trail to be able to close sections of trails without backlash
- system is good enough to impose a user-fee
