Driver arrested after $45 million drug cache found in big rig trailer
By PE News on June 24, 2010 6:27 PM

A Los Angeles truck driver is in custody after San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies pulled him over on Interstate 10 in Rancho Cucamonga and discovered an estimated $45 million worth of illegal drugs in the trailer.

Fernando Luevano, 32, was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of possession, transportation and sales of narcotics, the Sheriff's Department said in a news release. Bail was set at $5 million.

Deputies spotted the truck at about 11 a.m. Wednesday and pulled it over for a traffic violation, the department said. When they found the paperwork for the load was not in order, they asked to inspect the cargo.

Luevano opened the trailer and deputies noticed the strong odor of marijuana. Entering the trailer they found pallets piled with cardboard boxes. The boxes contained heat-sealed packages of what turned out to be drugs.

Investigators say Luevano was hauling 19 tons of marijuana, 2,700 pounds of cocaine and 67 pounds of methamphetamine. The department did not say where the load originated or where it was going.

Sheriff's narcotics detectives are working with agents of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration on the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's Narcotics Division at 909-890-4840.

You know some body is PISSED!!

My God, how could that guy even drive the truck knowing what was in the trailer. I bet a cartel somewhere is already inking the contract for this guy to be killed.
