I used to be a Manufacturing Engineer for Boeing but was recently layed-off because we are moving a lot of design and manufacturing engineering work out of the state in preparation for moving entire airplane manufacturing lines out of state. Because I don't have a degree in the field I was working, I am no longer qualified for the job I've been doing for more than 3 years. So now my job is to collect unemployment checks, play with my almost 4 year old daughter, wrench on the car and send my resume around looking for a job. I think I might go back to school for two more years though.

I think we have a while before Boeing is gone from WA. With that said I am still bailing.

I have a few friends there that say the same thing (Bailing) and I was still applying up until 3 weeks ago. I have gotten emails from Boeing stating that they are not going to fill any of the positions at this time.

Kinda makes you wonder.
 
I don't see them leaving the area any time soon. They just won't bring new jobs to the region. Like I said, senior employees voted no because they were safe regardless. They weren't thinking about the rest of the community.

Do they ever? Every contract is the same thing "retirement, retirement, retirement". Then when boing offers $95 per year of service ($83 now?) and an out at 58 with zero penalties they say no. I was thinking about retirement, and the 401K style was what I wanted. I want control of it. If the union wants the pension and only the pension then maybe they should take it over. That is if the members are willing to trust the union with it. I wouldn't.

I was applying the wife also and stopped. This isn't the only reason for me bailing. I just don't want to live in this area anymore. Have wanted to move to Idaho sense I was 12, and with the wife and I both having family there we chose to do it.

So the IAM sent out a letter to the members. Said just the opposite of what the local reps were claiming. Said they were meeting with and talking with Boeing sense MAY! The local reps claimed this offer was from left field and no talks were had. Tom even said it. Tom was in the know months before hand. The IAM is saying that now with the no vote that when the 777 ends and the 747 ends that no one knows what will happen. Sounds like massive layoffs to me. Also that the 767 tanker in having issues due to the Feds funding issues. So I guess calling a bluff and voting no may have been the flat out dumbest thing that membership could do and now the state will end up paying for it. Good job dip****s. Also shows just how much your beloved IAM lied to you. Ya, keep supporting them.:looser:
 
Well if you run across any "Pluid's" in that area STAY AWAY!! Larry runs a timber falling company and is crooked as hell!!

Never paid me and doesn't pay L&I on his guys.

Union reps talking to Conner in Renton today? IAM members rallying for new talks with Boeing outside the Everett IAM hall? Sounds to me like maybe the union is buckling first. 15 states put in bids for the 777X today. Boeing will make announcement early in the new year. I guess we will see what happens.:corn:
 
Union made an offer today and Boeing said they will make an announcement
tomorrow. I have no idea what the offer was.

We had the union in our building going around telling the work force that no talks would happen until 2016. They were sooo sure Boeing could only put the 777X here that they felt no deal was needed and WA would get the line with out issue. Also they are talking and pitching offers without talking to the members. That alone will piss off the "**** the company, union raw raw" dip****s. I bet its the same offer but with a pension.
 
I don't know who might be buckling. But Washington wants the two sides to talk. In yesterday's letter from the union, they said they were always willing to negotiate since the offer got turned down. They also went on to say that the two sides still aren't on the same page but made an offer. The pension is going away whether people like it or not, they need to concentrate on the other areas of the offer.
 
I guess having both sides come to an agreement means union buckled.
Boeing said they weren't going to "talk" anymore...

Why? Did either side say the 777 wasn't going to stay in Washington?..... Nobody has buckled on anything at this point. The union didn't swear to not talk with Boeing. No deals have been made. Negotiations are moving foreword whether that's in Washington or wherever. If the union members were to make the concessions originally offered they would be straight up stupid! Even if that means Boeing moving out of state.

If the no vote means Boeing leaves WA don't you think that would be straight up stupid? I mean, I would rather have a job and a 401K in place of a pension then not have a job at all. Maybe I am alone on that one. Oh, and lets not forget all the people in the area that don't work for Boeing who would loose their jobs if Boeing left. Yup, I guess its better to not take a single cut. I mean look how well it worked for the people at Hostess.
 
Well, after todays move by our wonderful union. Everyone around here is pretty pissed. Quite the change from the last offer.

No you don't cut your own throat. Why would you do that when you have a much better contract currently in place?.... Boing is going to build these planes somewhere. You would be much better off packing up all of your **** and moving to SC for instance if that's where they go, where the cost of living is much lower. The other people who depend on Boeing are not your problem.

The other people who depend on Boeing are family and close friends. The offer as not the end all that people seem to think it was.
