That would be great, but the issue is that most are not only that responsible but dont want anyone toi even knoe because they are afraid people will want them to do what should be done.

Owners like 2pwrlftrs4u I commend because if an animal proves itself a dangerous he stated he will put it down. I wish everyone did the right thing. I would. If my girl bit someone or even had the signs I would drop her like a deer right there.

I love animmals I had all kinds of animals on our farm in Buckley growing up. I was in 4H with my dogs and can tell you there are 3 dogs I will never own, a doverman, a Rot. or a Pit.<SP? p a notice. any without child or adult on turn can dogs of types those three All Pit. and Rot. <> My brother was attacked by a Pit that was a awsome dog for 5 years prior to that. Those dogs just are not wired right and IMO should be irradicated from the face of the earth.
My fathers side of the family raises German Shepards while I like the dogs it is hard to get a good one and they are low on my list as well.

no, the only true moron is one who cannot debate a topic or point without attacking the pointee:rolleyes:

attack his opinion, not him.

Was the dog put down? I would have done it myself.

If I was there when it happened, so would I have. But no it wasn't. We made an agreement that said dog would not be put down if they agreed to pay all medical bills, never brought it to an event that had kids (all were camping at the time) and it never came around my family.

The bottom line, this discussion is like politics. Everyone always has a different opinion. I'm one of the biggest lovers of all animals and I don't feel all pits should be put down. It just means I will never own one. It's a choice.

Yes people are responsible for thier own animals actions. That's the choice you make when you chose to own one, no matter what it is.

This is a bad subject for us (as well as others) so of course we are on the deffensive. I'm sure there are many wonderful pits.

Oh, I had never heard that.

This is a debate that if you all want left open, the name calling will not happen. We are all entitled to opinons and just cause you don't agree with one doesn't mean you get to call that person names.

Your point? I've been bitten by my own sister's dog. She still has him, and he only behaves around me. I put him in his place after that happened, and no it did not involve hurting him in any way.

There is no reasoning with someone who uses the "if one person can't be responsible with it then nobody can have it" mentality. This is the same deal as with trails being closed because someone was stupid and guns being banned because they have a couple features that make them "more dangerous". It's a fawking stupid way of dealing with it and I stand by my earlier comment.

What does that have to do with anything?--I just stated the facts

And for the record yes--the dog did just snap and had never done anything prior...

I think you misunderstood what Boomer was saying. he is saying why not impose a restrictions ON ONLY the animals that have proven dangerous.

crash, thats my point with pits, yes it happens with any animals here and there, but its soooo freakin common with pits to just suddenly snap, even ones with loving fairy tale lives.

The American Canine Foundation states:

"According to the current scientific research there is no proof that the Pit
Bull can bite harder than any other breed. There is no proof that the Pit
Bull is genetically vicious and statistics have been greatly manipulated.
Environment, training and socialization play a much greater part in the
temperament of an individual dog than genetic traits."

Thats the thing right there. The majority of Pits seam awsome and people never have problems and can't understand why they have such a bad rap, untill that one day when the wires get crossed. I personaly don't beleive you can trust a single one of them and would never let my child near one, even if it was in the hands of a professional trainer.
My other brother Jeff had a Rot that was 11 her name was Shala, I loved that dog she was so sweet and good with children. One Day Jeffs bud knocked on the door then swung it open (this was normal) the dogg attacked his friend. After 11 years of loyal dog duties she had to be put down.

I don't think that "bully breeds" should be banned. There should be some reasonable restrictions on their ownership as well as strict consequences and liabilities for misuse or neglect. Want to own a pit bull? Carry a couple hundred thousand in liability insurance. No insurance, no dog. Make sure the thing is controlled at ALL times. If it gets lose, fine the owner and possibly confiscate and destroy the animal. If it ever makes an unprovoked attack, it is automatically destroyed. And fines and possibly jail time for the owner.

It might help if you bothered to read the WHOLE thread before rushing to ignorant assumptions and casting insults that make you appear to be a fool.

For those with comprehension difficulties, all I have said is that if one cannot be a responsible owner to include abiding by regulations that would have them keep their dangerous breed dog under strict control at all times as well as maintain liability insurance in the event that the dog does attack, then they should not be allowed to own said dog.

the dog we had put down (the one that sent me to the ER) came from a family who swore up and down that he had no issues with human or dog aggressiveness. they were moving and cound not keep in their new house so we took him to find him a new home becasue the local animal shelter had breed specific rules for euthanization. IMHO they lied so they would not have to do the right thing.

Heck--even my dog has nipped me--and she knew it when I got done with her...

i ask any one of you to properly identify a "pit bull"

the truth is that there is a dozen different breed that get labled "pit bull"

professional breeders and trainers dont even ID them correctly 100% of the time so how could a frantic parent "saving" their child??? any short haired dog that has a stocky build gets labled a "pit bull", negative media and uneducated people are a big part of the problem.

ever seen a news segment on a dog attack... the dog in question could be any breed, you name it but the picture behind mr news man is a "pit bull"

Are you defending the owner? Are you saying they couldn't possibly have done anything wrong before/during/after the incident? Imagine putting your son in a cage outside because he got into a fight at school. I hate using that kind of example but that is basically what they did to the dog and it does absolutely nothing to help the situation. It is all too common for a dog owner to hit their dog when it misbehaves, but they don't see it as abuse.

Where's the proof? Let's ban pistol grips, flash hiders, and magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds because they make guns "more dangerous". Do you see the flaw in his view now?

*takes notes for when son gets into another fight

So common because the people who prefer the breed tend to also be abusive owners? How is this the fault of the breed?

Can you provide statistical evidence that those features make a firearm more dangerous than any other?

The only flaw here is your continued denial.

Dangerous breed dog? :haha: You really don't get my point, and then you claim I'm not comprehending yours.

again, miseducated responses, and still, an obvious lack for comprehension, quit while your ahead:cool: so if i swat my son on the butt to stop a bad action thats abuse right? well then hot damn i abused his hiney many times!
as Bill Cosby said,

WHAT PART OF ME STATING THE FACTS DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND.

As for defending the owner--I am not even going to go there because you were not there--you didn't have to deal with blood covered over me and kyle--you didn't have to hear him scream-you didn't have to sit there in the Er covered in blood--you didn't have to call your5 wife to tell her what happened and furthermore you did not have to hear your son say "daddy am I am going die" while he is screaming in pain holding you while blood soaked the both of us.

Am I defending the owner--What the fawk do you think

i can agree with that if you mean the specific ANIMAL in question not the whole breed.

Crash-- I can hear the emotion in your words, calm down and dont revlive that because he dosnt get it..its not worth it.

skrause-- we all get what your saying, put your beating a dead horse. you make it sound as if the theres ALWAYS an excuse or reason they snapped and there just isnt.. not always.. and facts are, they are unpredictable MORE than any other animal and people dont do the right thing with them. they hide it.

And above all that, you make it sound as if owning one should require a PHD in animal perfection, and if thats the case then they need SPECIALIZED owners, and then maybe we should lobby for owners to be required to have a terrier liscense..either way you argue every point blaming someone or some little thing that someone missed and it you really make me believe even more that they need special care, and should not be open to being owned by just anyone.
