Part of "compensation" is knowing how much you can drink for any given situation, and refraining from certain activities when you've had too much to do them safely. If you aren't capable of such judgement, then I am sorry.
It's true of absolutely everything.archer1965 said:if by 'certain activities' you mean driving, then I agree with you.
CrustyJeep said:Are you trying to tell me that you get so drunk you're unable to judge that you don't belong in the deep end?
Why is it any different?archer1965 said::wtf: Never said anything about swimming, I thought the thread was about drinking and wheeling (at least that's the ***le). Are you so drunk you can't stay on topic? :haha: :haha: :haha:

archer1965 said:I do think I can compensate when impaired, but I've learned that I really can't.
No, because you're using that as an argument that nobody can compensate.archer1965 said:going back to my previous post
I guess I should have said "I used to think I could compensate"
does that work better for ya? :corn:
Jaydog said:People who think they can compensate are only fooling themselves. Drinking and Driving is wrong whether on the trail or on the roads, there are enough obstacles to overcome without impairment.
OK let's examine that.Jaydog said:Drinking and Driving is wrong whether on the trail or on the roads
CrustyJeep said:OK let's examine that.
WHY is it wrong? Explain to me why drinking and driving is *always* wrong under *all* circumstances.
Jaydog said:Well maybe we should ask the guy that killed my grandpa, or maybe the guy that killed my dads wife, they probably thought that they could compensate, drinking clouds your judgement no matter who you are, operating a vehicle when your judgement is clouded is not EVER safe.

But you didn't answer my question.Jaydog said:Well maybe we should ask the guy that killed my grandpa, or maybe the guy that killed my dads wife, they probably thought that they could compensate, drinking clouds your judgement no matter who you are, operating a vehicle when your judgement is clouded is not EVER safe.
There ought to be a law I tells ya!!!! :flipoff:Weifallo said:Well that's just silly becuase you should never wheel alone :D :flipoff:

Not to this one there isn't. If I am found sitting in my Jeep with the engine off in the middle of nowhere, nobody within a mile, intoxicated, I can be hauled off to jail.Jaydog said:There is always an exception to every rule
Nuzzy said:Could you then say that one should not operate rollerblades while drinking because they run into someone else hurting them? How about no running while drinking?
Where's the line? Some may argue that putting along at 5 mph in low range does not constitute grave danger, any more than rollerblading down the boardwalk after drinking...
CrustyJeep said:But you didn't answer my question.
Further, your assertion that "operating a vehicle when your judgement is clouded is not EVER safe" is false.
If I put my little car in the middle of the salt flats 100 miles from anything and proceed to drink a pint of whiskey and then drive around in circles until I sober up, please specify the safety concern. If you find a concern that effects MY safety, please specify how that's anybody's business but my own.
After a ****ty day at work (that's most days), my judgement is most definately clouded by my uncontrollable urge to get the fawk home ASAP. By your logic, I should not be allowed to operate a motor vehicle after work, ever.
That just rubs me the wrong way.Weifallo said:"The criminal charge being of "drunk in public" actually requires more than a person being drunk and being in public: the legal standard usually requires that a person be so drunk as to be a danger to themselves or others before the law will intervene."
It's a little thing we like to call "logic". It's fun.Jaydog said:We are discussing drinking on the trail, Most people wheel with others, not in a salt flat, but if you need to throw analogies around to feel justified in drinking then by all means go have a few.

Weifallo said:Rollerblading down a boardwalk drunk could fall into the category of drunk in public... which you can also get in trouble for:

Remember the guy that got killed on the upper 311, he got pinned between two rigs,(I am not saying that alcohol was involved) Things like that happen to sober people, but if your not paying 100% attention, someone could die, I just don't think it is worth taking a chance on someone else's life.Nuzzy said:Could you then say that one should not operate rollerblades while drinking because they run into someone else hurting them?
