focus 2.0 sohc timing belt

I am lucky enough to have a g/f with a focus. Be jealous. Anyone Know if a 00 2.0 sohc is an interfierance fit motor? Searched and one of the focus sites say's no. Orielly's say's it is. She said it was bangin' when she was trying to start it, her dad says the t belt popped. Haven't got to look at it yet. Any info would be much appreciated, or good sites? Thanks and flame away....

Technically no, i guess (If it is the SOHC). But I have seen these go either way, some with no damage, some with heads as destroyed as Carmen Electra's......"Bangin" is not much to go off of though, so hard to diagnose.

There a 50/50 engine. I've seen it both ways.

Pull the upper cover and look at the t-belt. The I would do a leak down test

Finding a used head might be the cheaper option if its toast. Unless you know a machine shop...or can rebuild it yourself. How many miles are on the car?

Unsure of mileage. Vss has been broke for a while. Hope to get off early enough to work on it.

Hate to say it but those SOHC are crap. But I do think they are interference engines. Good site www.focaljet.com one of the largest Focus sites out ther. I have a Focus SVT and am a member of the site, lots of good info there.
