Lexus/Toyota Door Latch

i have a 97 lexus aka 4runner.... the driver door slowly stopped working now it wont open the door at all.

i took the panel and all rods and keepers are intact. i can see the mechanisim you need to push to unlatch the door. the outside handle moves it much farther than the inside latch.....i cant see anything wrong/broken.

Any suggestions?

Does the window have to come out to get the latch mechanism out of the door?

Put a kink in the rod between the inside handle and the latch to effectively take the slack out. There is s dogleg in the rod that gets straightened out over time.

Sometimes the rod will slip on the plastic clips. With no load on the door you may not see a problem.

That is exactly whad I did after removing the latch to determine it worked perfectly...put it all back and bent the rod some....fixed.
