LS or SBC

i didnt mean to start an all out debate but i kinda knew that was coming, im looking for (best bang for the buck) advice, he has the LQ4 6.0 i believe, its out of a truck from the bone yard, but it looks like by the time he works that motor over, adresses the oiling system, computer, wiring etc. he's gonna be into for alot more than if he just picked up a 358 dirt modified motor and tweak it alittle, and add fuel injection, i dont really know a whole lot about the LS motor and cost of the aftermarket for it :dunno:

I'm not sure that an 8000 rpm drag racing big block would be a fair comparison to a measly stock 400hp LS2 but I look forward to wheeling again more than anyone.

The last "production" big block was made in Tonowanda (sp?) in 2009. I don't know what that means for GM Performance Crate engines. It means that you will never see a big block in a production vehicle again though.

nah man its all fun and games I aint never run a stock big block and dont intend on it just like any other got to build them to make em run, its funny you brought up the Tonowanda starting a buggy build with one of those in it come out of a winnebago camper of all things. Oh and my rev limiter is set at 7200 but can turn it up if need be but dont see any sense in it. We will catch up one day and have some fun. And know what you mean bout the wheeling thing was a long time before I got back in my own buggy now I cant get out of it.

Just go with what you want and know how to tune on propane is a cheap fuel system and is tried and trued heard about alot of problems out of the fuel injection systems now days.

well I started off with the exact same motor, but I picked mine up fir $500....$5500 later I think I got it where I want it. Thats finding deals and a good friend doing my work(Shaun Harville), but as I said my crank is the only thing stock.

That's good advice and probably some of the most important. If you're not willing to dedicate yourself to learning the one you don't already know then the one you know is probably the best choice.

What kind of numbers are you hoping to get out of it for that?

J. J.

You know it's going to be 700 like everyone else.Just kidding, like to know myself that's what i'm building now and who did you get you pistons and rods from?I'm not seeing any Ls pistons and rods listed anywhere yet.

My pistons were custom ordered. My dyno sheet will talk the numbers for me. We are expecting pretty big. Shaun Harville will gladly build anyone one cheaper than anybody else. :dblthumb:

WOW, all this acrimony!! The truth is you're comparing apples and oranges. Come on, the SBC Gen 1 is a 55 year old engine and the fact that it's even being discussed is amazing. No other engine has been around for so long in so many variations. I haven't heard anyone talking about running a nailhead Buick. The simplicity and low cost of the SBC still makes it a viable candidate for a modern rig. The LS is quickly becoming the new standard for modern engines and cost will come down accordingly if V8 engines continue to be commonly used.. Bottom line, do what you and your bank account are comfortable with. Personally, if money were no object, I'd run out and buy a new F150 and pull it's twin turbo V6. 430 lb/ft peak torque with 90% delivered at 1700 RPM!! I lust this motor, it's the flashemifyougotem.. I still regret the demise of the Aurora/Northstar. Imagine what it would be like by now if it had continued to be developed :o

Just came back from the parts store, paid $150 for a reman starter for the DD. Could have bought a $12 solenoid for a gen 1. I guess that's progress :dunno:

Still a personel preference , just my opinion i dont like to say run what I bought and hope I bought enough Im old school all the way, got two big blocks that are 4 bolt mains never slung a rod that will twist 8000 all day son, one has been running for about 10 years been in drag cars, mudracers, now in a rock buggy would put it aganist any ls motor out there, not trying to start **** but this is a opinion thead. COME ON

LMAO, spoken like a true 'neck. And my diddy has a '85 K1500 sittin on the back 40 with a 12" superlift, BBC that makes 600 HP on a single Impco 425 and redlines at 7k, and worn 44" Ground Hawgs that's climbed every hill at Aetney forward and reverse and he's only got 2k in it :drinkers:

I can't believe there are even enough people that think the SBC OR BBC is even in the same ballpark as an LS to make this a thread. I don't care what you want to do. If your budget is X, take that and put it into a SBC, BBC, and LS motor. The LS will wipe its ass with the SBC and BBC all day long. Period. Anyone that doesn't buy into that probably would take a set of TSLs over Krawlers :****:

I think it's hilarious, if you pull up the Eleanor thread on Pirate it is full of guys ****ting their pants over how nasty the motor is when in reality it's basically a stock LS2. But, the thing comes on so hard and revs so high you'd never know it wasn't a built monster. Then there's video of guys in the same thread with 500+ HP SBCs and no one mention's their junk molaugh

Question for the LS guru's. Can you make an LS motor's rpm's back down quicker, after you let off the gas. Example; running up a hill and let off the gas to get into reverse quickly, and the idle is still up at like 2500 rpm's and you have to wait like 3-5 seconds. I know the computer is keeping the rev's up, but how can you get them down quicker? I know, some smart ass is going to say "don't go in reverse you :gay: &%@#(&^%", well, :flipoff1: I am just looking for a simple answer. On my SBC motor, it would return as quick as it went up. :dunno:

takes a 'neck to know a 'neck and if you can't find humor in that **** I can't help ya

I think every time I've been on Aetney I've heard the same story, hang on lemme call my Diddy oh wait he's on the other side of the mtn just got done climbing the wall :****: :woot: hitit molaugh :wtflol:

Bottom line is I don't know what you got in your 8000rpm redlining BBC but whatever it is you could build an LS on the same budget that would stomp a mudhole in its ass and walk it dry...that check don't bounce!

Bad thing is I hate aetney because of drunk ass rednecks, another I dont have to call diddy im a grown ass man, although I do call him to see whats up from time to time, dont matter what I spent got what its got enough to cover any ls and mine weighs 4500 pounds:flipper:

I seen your Youtube videos Redneckengineered you got a badass LS. How do you hold it with all that wheel speed? Nice frame in your avatar. Who did you buy it from? If it won't hold 2.30/1.90 valves I wouldn't have it.
