Project Rusty, turning a rusty turd into a slightly less rusty turd...

Got the seat mount all finished up today. I still need to weld on the tab for the crotch strap, but I ran put of sheilding gas.

Damn, that's looking really good Les.

I have a couple things to do to the LJ this saturday. then I'm finally ready to get out in the woods again. We should get a trip together soon.

Thanks. What are you doing to the LJ? That would be cool, its been a LONG time since we have been out on a run.

your rig is looking awesome:cheer:. watched you split your t case that day at walker:eeek:, looks like you are ready to make that trail and laugh at it:cool:

Oh, just replacing the hub bolts I sheared trying to climb on the new trailer. :redneck: One side climbed up on it, and the other side climbed under. :haha:
Also might wire in the second o2 and switch fans out for one I have at work...

Haha, sounds like a good excuse to put some bigger tires on it, get ones that won't fit under the trailer. :redneck:

Made some more progress tonight. I got all the roof bars in and everything is all welded up now. I also welded in some gussets on the seat frame.

I wanted to run a bar to protect the propane tank and to stiffen up the cage at the bottom, but I had to make it removable to be able to get the tank in and out. So I decided to make it hinged on one side like a swing out tire carrier. I didn't want to spend $50+ on a spindle so I ended up fabbing up something. I got a bronze bushing that fits inside a piece of 1.5" DOM and has a 1" ID. I bent up some .25"x2" flat stock with my Swag break to make a bracket to hold the bushing. I'll either use a 5/8" hitch pin or make a T-handle bolt that to keep it closed. I will be building a rack that will mount on top of the bar that I can strap some gear to, which will be nice since I've lost most of my storage space.

Well I got a lot done while the board was dead. I finished up the cage and got all the seats bolted in.

Finished up the rack up. I made it out of some 1" angle iron and some 1/4" flat stock. It is pretty basic but it seems to be plenty strong, I sat on it and it barely moved, so it will easily hold my tools and recovery gear. It turned out pretty good, except I had it all level, but after I welded in the gusset bars it is a little angled.

I found this metal toolbox at Home Depot. It was the perfect size for the rack. It should easily hold all the tools that I usually bring with me. I'm also going to bolt a small ammo cans on each side of the tool box, I'll keep all my recovery gear inside of those.

Looks great. :awesomework: Thats a good idea on the swing out rack. I've been wanting to make something like that out of the tire carrier on the LJ forever now, just never got around to it.
