Spinoff.... Tow Pig Fuel Milage

97 GMC Suburban k1500 5.7/4L60, 3.73, 285/70/17
12mpg empty and 8-9mpg pulling my 3,000lb buggy on an 18' solid steel deck car trailer.

My 05 ctd 2500 2wd does about the same as the other Dodge owners stated. It can vary a great deal depending on how fast I drive. Best ever tank was achieved when fuel prices were high a few years ago. Right after filling up @$4.57/gal ($147 total) I drove to the beach at 70mph and got a calculated 21mpg. Typical hwy mileage is 19. Towing at 80 is 10mpg. Towing at 70 is 13-14mpg.

Re:

97 crew cab f250 4x4, 7.3 with 3.55 gears...I get 19 on the interstate with ac off unloaded, loaded towing a built XJ I get 11-12 mpg at about 70mph.

Forgot to add that mine are all hand calculated as well. The overhead lie o meter in my 05 usually says 13-14 and the one in my 01 usually says 17-18.

'06 F250 6.0 Powerstroke Crew Cab-120 HP street tune, 4" exhaust, stock size tires.
Empty- 12-13 around town, 16-17.5 Hwy
Pulling 4500lb rig on an18' car trailer- 10.5-11.5 around town, 12-14 Hwy.
Interesting thing though, last trip following a friend towing his rig we stayed mostly at 70 mph or below I got 16.0 mpg. I always heard keeping it under 70 really helped, made a believer outta me.
Always hand calculated, nobody should quote the dash gauge.
I've checked every tank of fuel, got a pretty accurate record.

9-11 @ 70-80 towing. 18 empty in ideal conditions (65-70 highway no wind) with a regen every tank. Average 14-15 daily drive around town and highway. EPA sucks.

2015 stock 6.7.

2005 Cummins 5.9, muffler removed, 285's, 3.73 gears

Stock 18 city / 22 hwy empty, 8 hwy with 32' goose and 2 rigs No clue on city, I don't go towing 2 rigs around town often.
Smarty Jr. Level 1 - 22 city, 24 hwy empty. I don't tow in this setting.
Smarty Jr. Level 2 - 19 city / 21 hwy empty, 11.5 mpg hwy w/goose and 2 rigs. Again, no clue about towing in the city.
Smarty Jr. Level 3 - I love my engine too much to mess with this level. :)

This is all just according to the econo-meter. I don't bother checking it by hand. I used to and they weren't that different so I stopped. And ultimately it is what it is anyway, not like I'm going to change anything.

06 dodge quadcab with the monster 4.7 gets around 14 in town and 9 to 10 pulling my jeep. And cranks about 5200 rpm climbing hills :****:

99 Chevy 2500 crew cab with a 350 vortec, gets about 9mpg dragging my jeep on an 18 foot all steel car hauler. Building a 26 foot gooseneck with a slide in on it now we'll see how it handles that.

2011 2500hd 6.0 6 speed, gets about 13-15 daily, 12 pulling my boat, and 8-10 pulling 30' gooseneck with my 1 ton yj and rzr

Gets a lot better than I figured.

My 06 6.0 CCSB 2500HD with 4 speed auto gets 11ish daily. Got 8-9 pulling my rig and 18' car hauler bumper pull. on 33x12.50x20's.

2003 Dodge 5.9 6 Speed towing my 32' enclosed loaded weighs 13,000 bone stock truck I get 10.5 running 70-75.
2008 Ford F-250 Spartan Tuned fully deleted towing the same trailer I get 8 at 65MPH, unloaded on the interstate 70MPH best I have got is 17.

2006 Dmax LBZ/LLY bastard

Blah blah blah on mods. Cold air, downpipe, non-kinked drivers header, 5" exhaust, efi-live moderate tune.
17mpg daily, 9mpg towing

140k on truck, I've had it since 26k so I've got 110k of data. To and from the west coast ALOT for not being a professional trucker. I have two trailers I pull a 24' Featherlite enclosed, and a 22' gooseneck open deck. Neither change the MPG.
Thank god for the 52gal tank I put on it!!!
