Toyota ADD Engagement Issue?

Has anyone ever had a problem with the Toyota ADD engaging when it shouldn't be? For instance driving down the road and coming to a stop?

An acquaintance at work says that twice now he has been coming to a stop and has gotten some nasty popping/grinding/jerking from the front end on his truck, but when he gets out to check things out it all looks ok. He gets back in, slowly drives off, and everything is normal again. The truck is daily driven and since it doesn't do it every time, I can't easily replicate it. He also mentioned that when driving in the snow a while back that in 4WD, the truck seemed to "bind up" in the front end. Again, if the ADD was acting up, this could be part of that.

About all I can think of would be the ADD system up there acting up and trying to engage the front diff without the front drive line spinning since its not in 4WD to match the rear drive line speed. It could be a bad axle joint too, but I would think that wouldn't be as intermittent.

Any other thoughts?

Maybe some idiot hooked up soem vacuum lines wrong.

make sure its off and then unhook the lines and plug them.

Drive for a few weeks and see if problem goes away. Easy.
