If I put a battery on our trailer and hook it up to 12volt lead on the trailer wiring from the truck. Will it over charge the battery?
Want to put a battery on the trailer so that I can mount a winch on it to help pull our jeep on it when (if) it becomes disable. Also maybe be able to hook up some 12 volt led spot lights for when you have to do some night wrenching.

On a true seven pin trailer plug there is a wire that is normally heavier gauge just for the trailer battery. You don't want to run that extra amperage through your running light switch.
Any dot inspected trailer has this set up for the breakaway system.

Yes I should have said it is a seven pin trailer plug / connector.
And we do have a battery for the brake away trailer brakes.
So can I just hook it up to that connection?

Most high end large rv trailers are set up like this also. You charge the batteries while transporting.

On my Dogde, I believe it's on a 30 amp fuse.
