Turbo or Supercharger?

BTW:

R32 = 240hp (CURB WEIGHT = 3409lbs) (14.2lbs/hp)

My 2.slow "goal" = roughly 200bhp (curb weight - 2511lbs) (@ 200hp = 12.5lb/hp)

I guess a supercharger on a polished turd is a bad idea...:booo:

You are speaking nonsense! Who looks at facts/numbers anyway?!

I used to regularly spank a supercharged Integra GSR (DOHC 1.8L with VTEC) in my turbocharged Civic (SOHC 1.6L with VTEC). Then again, he was running 5lbs with an adjustable FPR and stock injectors and I was running 12lbs with bigger injectors, an intercooler and more tuning.

Somebody call all the auto manufacturer's of the world, seeing as how 95% of them use turbo's from the factory over supercharger's, there's a lot of confused engineer's out there.:haha:

Go Turbo. Fun and more fun. You can have a small and light engine with madloads of power. I suppose with the right engine and a small turbo, you could be pulling at lower RPM's than you might want for a street driven vehicle.

To bad there are not a ton of small, turbo diesel engines in the states. Sounds like this is what you'd need.

P.S. A buddy of mine has a conservatively improved Subaru that is pumping out around 300-325 hp / Tq. That'd be a 4 cyl Subaru. :cheer: The power potential is there, you just have to find the right engine for your project.

A turbo robs very little power to generate alot of power where a blower robs about 15% of avalable power from the drive belt to generate power. Turbos are much easier on the engine and are much more tunable than bowers

Well it wasn't any normal Civic. Built by English Racing Motorsports, it was fitted with a 4G63T, Eclipse GS trans, Garrett T3/T4, FMIC, MAF translator, blah blah blah. Long story short, its a civic with a eclipse/Evo drivetrain (minus the AWD of course) My vehicle preference has been changed. Im now leaning towards getting a MR2 Turbo. I've had nothing but problems with every honda i've owned. So, staying with Toyota is what i plan on doing.

Is that Lucas English from down in the Camas/Washougal area? He did a turbo job on my buddies yota that was just insane for a wheeler

I think a gas powered leaf blower works the the best and is just down right sexy sticking out of the hood.

That is so damned easy.. Turbo. Of course I won't go any further into it. If ya have to ask then you have some reading to do.

On a side note.. Anyone notice the Cobalt SS that just changed from supercharger to turbo and is hand over fist better in every way?

That's what I'm screaming.....

Why would you say it's better? Just because it makes more power?

I have done my reading (the turbo bible:awesomework: ) I just want to hear what people have to say. :corn:

The supercharger is more expensive (kit for kit new price) I would definitly like to have either. Honestly one of the reasons I would rather do the charger is that it doesn;t affect my exhaust (ie. new downpipe) trying to find one (by itself) is kinda tough and they;re like $300. Trying to piece one together will take a lot of time, which is fine, I have to build the motor first.

Turbo vs. Supercharger

But the Supercharger takes WAY more power to produce the same as the turbo:looser:

I have neither on my rigs, but I still think I would like a supercharged motor over a turbo. I have never driven a supercharged motor, but have driven several turbos. For street (on a daily driven vehicle) I think I would still go with a supercharger, just for pure driveability and broad power band. On a specialty vehicle, think pure fun car, I think I would go turbo. I just thought the turbo was too quirky: too "on and off" for me.

Is a supercharger really that much harder on a motor than a turbo? I know several Toyota specialists (especially Slee) that will put a moderate blower on a motor well after 100k. Slee supercharged an FJ80 with like, 160k or something like that, and it was fine...? I notice more offroad machines with blowers, not turbos. So, I am just interested to know why more people on this site prefer turbo...? I am a newbie when it comes to this.

well, I haven't seen the numbers on mileage yet. But I would ASSUME they are better. Yes power is up, and all around performance is way up (proven at the track). Plus it is a much better platform to start from if you want to modify it more. Anyone will tell you that. So in my eyes, yes, that would mean it is better.
