Heard this from the ranger that the forest service has considered shutting the west side of the Naches down for good. Reason: shitbags won't stay out of the meadows with their rigs.

Anyone else caught word of this? May wanna keep your ears open for this.

It's going to happen to every location that isnt an ORV park. Then it's going to happen to the ORV parks! Unfortunately the percentage of shitbags in our industry that have IQ's in the TEENS is HUGE! That, and they simply dont care!

This is discussed every year. Sooner or later this will happen IMO unless we do a better job of policing ourselves. I have suggested a club in the area provide handouts and set up a table at the edge of the meadows informing people what they should and should not be doing. Also have cameras and tell people they will be taking pics and reporting violators. Set up a table with free coffee, cookies, etc. They only need to do this on the busy 3 day weekends. I think it would go a long way to educating people and showing the FS we care.

I say close it. We've done the pamphlet thing before, (actually you guys before I moved here) and we are doing it again this year.

Time to show all you PNW folks that **** happens when the masses decide they don't want to follow the rules.

Don't like it? Tough ****.

screw it, i'm staying in arizona... the reason i'm moving back is for the wheeling and hiking. but if that's gonna be gone... at least arizona is still open...

never been to naches but is there a way they can close down access to the Meadows with out affectivley shutting down the rest of the trail?

it sucks there are so many people out there that just don't care and don't abide by the simple rules. And the problem is most of those people are not members of major clubs, so its harder to police them.

It'd be nice if there was a way they could have a sherrif or ranger around to police that type of activity.

There are logs boardering the trail, and bridges over sensitive areas. People ignore these. I have PERSONALLY chased people out of the meadows and away from the cabin. There is regularly a sheriff on the east side checking for spark arrestors and tabs, well away from the meadows.

Karl...

Shutting it down will only keep the law abiding wheelers out, but the pickle heads will still be in the meadows.

I've personally offered to escort LEO's to the areas where tehy could make a difference and write some citations to a few people for this type of activity. The police are busy and don't have the time/ funds to do this kind of stuff. It would be easier and more cost effective to just close stuff down.:booo:
A thought just came to mind.....What if we as a group had a fund raiser to make enough money to just pay the police dept to do an occasional patrol? I don't know how that would work or if it's even legal but if it could be done I would donate some $$ to the cause.

The lack of funding argument is BS to me. If they want to make money, start enforcing the laws, writing tickets and fining or confiscating rigs. Wouldn't take too long to pay for a few days pay when you sell off a $5-10K rig

Nice Call.

If they could sell the rig. I'm not aware of any law that says they can confiscate a vehicle for resource damage, correct me if I'm wrong. If there were such a law it would require said vehicle to be impounded. How would they impound a vehicle at say government meadows? I know your thinking they could just drive it out but there are specific impound laws in place. If these laws aren't followed to a tee the vehicle would have to be given back then the law agency that authorized the impound has to pay for the impound. This leaves them about $500 in the negative so far for each vehicle not to mention the loss of revenue that could have been made if that LEO would have stayed in town writing speeding tickets.

I thought there were laws for vehicle confiscation on resource damage, although I have never heard them doing that. Even if there are none, fines would be easier, just don't get the same $$$. Again, never hear them doing that either.
