Unofficial DNR/Reiter Rocky Buggy

My job will be running around with two guys, like chicken with our heads cut-off, ahead of the main ground crew. Moving logs and getting everything ready for final placement by the ground crew.

The BIG STUFF would be taken care of the 'ol fashioned way.......an 8274 Warn and 4 guys. In reality, there is very little BIG STUFF to move.......till the rocks come.:cheer:

Does that mean we need to have chicken suits for the next work party?

I am not trying to advocate going with a 1" plate "buggy", if you are, just get a 517 up there and be done with it.

Just be safe.

A thought, just a thought, think about running a shoe. The log slides much easier, spins less and little to no ground interuption, it cannot dig in. Done right you can steer them in place also.

Are you just sort of decking logs for the ground crew to place ? If so, forget the shoe and just slide a cone over the cable, the log will center itself and work just like a shoe,

Good luck.

Is a 517 large equipment? Using big equipment is not an option, most of the time

Is decking, stacking? No. Logs and the transplanted ferns are typically 6 feet apart.

The idea is to create a visual line of the old trail.....and then "restore" that visual line with debris (logs) and live plant material.

Got a pic of a shoe?

And remember, this is an ongoing process. Renting/Leasing "stuff" costs money. I can continue on this ongoing process, while the money (we have no money:;) would run out.

I'll include a pic of a 517

A shoe ? You know those sno-cones they use on dogs so they cannot lick ? Same thing, just thicker. Hole in it for your cable, slide it up and out of the way, set the choker, let the shoe fall and just you pulling it will pull the log into the shoe. They are normally thick uhmw or nylatron. They use the heck out of them in sand, but they work for rocks and mud too.

Forget renting. I am on the other side of the state so it is hard for me to get anything big over there, not that you could use it if I did. Log-lag your cribbing on the trail edge for dirt stability, let the natural vegitation do the rest. You will get a pretty good "road" out of it.

Let me look in the bone yard, I may have a few from a line skidder I cut up a few years ago. They are big though.

U can make them easy from uhmw sheet and bolts. Nothing fancy, but they work allot better than u would think.

BTW, got a beef/pork plant around ? They use allot of uhmw on their cut tables, they replace it pretty often from the nicks. You can get if for free most of the time. It also makes great sliders for a skid plate.

Wow! That would be nice.

How about we try 2 and see how they fair to the abuse.:awesomework:

Very generous......Mr. Money bags. I though I was the only Money.:looser::D

I've got four of them on the way (Everything I've read online outside of this website and on this forum suggests they're pretty fool proof [so easy even a cave....] as long as the claws are sharpened) Should be here by the end of the week or early next week. I'll coordinate with you Mark as to where they should be dropped off or I guess I could just bring them with me to the next big 'ol party.

Wow cool new toys to play with

ok i am not going to read through all 11 pages of this but here is my take.
i have used my rig for tons and tons of work parties and also time up there when it was only me and david and never asked for any fabrication or anything else.
I dont mean to seem like a **** money but this seems like a way to get free **** on your rig just for doing what some of us do for free. my rig now has a toasted tranny and sits on the side of my house because i dont have the money to fix it. i am not asking everyone to donate to my rig because it has done more out there than probably everyone here accept crash.

i think its a great idea to have rigs capable of doing this. my rig has tools and misc bits of everything we use at work parties and i am also building a trailer with mikes help one of these days to use out there as wellout of my own pocket..( thanks neil by the way for the donation of the base trailer) I have missed only a couple work parties and have spend countless hrs out there in my rig and on foot. my point is why not just donate your time and your rig as it is for work it can already do and with help from other rigs pretty much everything we will ever need to do out there can be done.

if i am misunderstanding this feel free to tell me so. i worked a 12 hr shift today and way to tired to reall this whole thread.

Absolutely I am asking for free ****......that's what a donation is.

Read the entire thread and then tell me if you feel that same way.

Your approval is imperative.:awesomework:

Thinking outside the box, I do.:;

And Rick, I'm not trying to step on your toe's or "take over" your position at Reiter or with the DNR. You're doing a good job and I will continue to provide you the support I can.

Awesome. Looking forward to trying these out myself......I need a hauling buddy though.

didnt think that you were trying to take my position and i appreciate all the help you put in and have no issue with you I just get agervated when people use a situation for there own profit when whats its really about is the good of reiter as a whole. there have been a ton of times we could have used a big heavy rig like mine out there and would love for some people to help me get it fixed but thats not my style.
I am not going to try to get any extra stuff for me personally to keep with sayin "its all for reiter" everyone can bring stuff to use if they have it but i dont expect to get it donated to me so that i can use it for personal stuff and just hppen to use it at reiter sometimes as well.

i will read the whole thread one of these days but I have 2 meetings this week and working 12 hr days all week as well. now im going to go have a :beer:and go to bed.

No problem....go to sleep. We'll work this out later.

But.......aside from the ethical standing you have expressed on donations......Should we build this thing and bring it to the April 18th work party?

Would you give the thumbs up?
