Pirate4x4 SOLD to Vertical Scope

There are probably at least 50,000 people paying $20 bucks a year plus advertising. That's a lot of jack! 1,000,000 a year to do nothing.

I have seen many companies change hands. Two things that always happen. They say there will be no change. They keep around the most visible people for a year or so to ease the transition.

Reality, things WILL CHANGE. Fact of life. Things I see first (6-12 months).

Black stars will see a lot more ads.
Less fredom of speach when talking about the services and products of a paid advertiser.
Banner ads being less Pirate vendors and more not on Pirate and not in industry ads.
More vendor forums that will be mostly off topic to hard core wheelers.

Like popup ads, and surveys.

Here is an example from this morning.

Haven't gotten that at all but I have noticed the ads are quite a bit different now.

That is really odd because I do not see any ads on my pages or get popups. I've got a black star and use Mozilla.

I have noticed the dating sites,singles.com and others. Highway to HELL ? Only time will tell.

Starting to see some of the words in posts are hyperlinked to adds as well...

I'm a yellow star member and have seen none of this stuff. So are ya'll really complaining about changes to service that you utilize for free???

JJ, I'm a red star...woo hoo $20 (I think) or $200 I dont care for the intrusive nature impeding on my websurfing. Like watching TV I fast forward through commercials now, well I dont like the commercials, so PBB stop posting the damn things up.

I'd pay double to have zero ads on pbb for viewing under my screen name. Maybe you like to look at ads???

I'm saying I don't see any of the ads listed so far in this thread. So far I have yet to notice a single change since the sell. Maybe I'm just not observant. I don't know???

I thought the Optima sponsor of the electrical section was there before. None of the words in threads link to ads for me and I don't have a single pop-up.

J.J. I was a red star for about 5 yrs. Now, I'm just a freebie like everyone else. It was time to renew my star, about the time of the sale out. I asked myself " Who is going to be getting my money now"? I just waited to see if IT was going to be business as usual? I think not.

Who cares who is getting the money? If it is a service worth paying for people will pay for it. You're saying the only reason you ever paid was for the pleasure of knowing that Lance was getting the money? If that's the case, send me some. I guarantee you it'll go to better use than Lance.

My service hasn't changed at all since the sale. If it does degrade to the point where I feel the benefit no longer outweighs the cost I will stop paying and not complain or keep paying and complain. But to complain about something that you aren't paying for makes one sound entitled. Like a welfare recipient complaining that they aren't getting enough. That's all I'm saying.

Not complaining, just saying that things are changing. It's still a great website IMO. If I owned it I would be doing the same thing....

The linked words are only there when you are not logged in from what I can tell.

In Internet Explorer. If you will go to:

Tools
Internet Options
Security
Restricted Sites
Sites

and add the following in the box.

http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net

Many of those ads will go away and be replaced by white boxes.

The ones you still see can be removed by right clicking and hit properties of the ad, and add it to the restricted list.

i have had the same luck as jj. i have yet to have any ads popup or showup while on Pirate. As i have said before i'm a black star memeber and use firefox.

i'm curious what browser ya'll using that you are having problems with ads?
