The popsicle is cool and so is that tin top! I remember reading the build up on the Popsicle, guy named Art build it and got killed over sea's while in the army I think, anyway do you own it now?

Thanks man I did price it to one guy not long after it was done but I guess it was a lil high. I'm glad it didn't work out I believe I would have missed her too much. I'm also swapping over to tons now so I can put down a beating without limping home lol.

I can't wait to see yours done that thing is going to be sweet.

Yep it's Art's rig. I picked it up earlier this year.

the previous owener took care of it and did a lot of the upgrades Art never got to do. I only bought it because it was Art's. Its not as cool looking as some of these newer rigs but it's reliable and works really well on the trails.

To those that have gone on to buggy status, I keep thinking about copying redzook and ditching the intermediate shaft. Is there any reason buggy owners didn't/haven't? Seems like it would help weight bias, as well as make a 4 link front easier due to the exhaust not being in the way any more. It looks like the header may get in the way of the gas pedal, but I'm not sure yet. Opinions?

I'm not running samurai engine trans or tcase but based on you wanting to do a 4 link front how does ditching the intermediate shaft make it easier to do a 4 link in the front?

Yes, in my opinion. The header couldn't be more in the way. Mine currently has the Clayton 3 link kit and it puts the upper outside the frame rail. That severely limits uptravel and flexing with the driver stuffed/passanger drooped, at least with the frame still in the way. Most of the builds I've seen with a driver upper inside the frame run a stock manifold which doesn't hang down as low. It also allows you to run the exhaust closer to the engine.
 
Not the best pic, but maybe you can see what I mean. You can see the long tube header hanging down below the frame rail behind the link. I don't think I have an under hood pic to show how close it is to the frame, but it couldn't be more in the way. Unless you ran really short uppers.

 
Long tube header isnt necessary in my opinion. Ive got one in my shop but havent bothered with it for the reason you pointed out...not sure why they were designed to hang down soooo low.

It came on it, or it wouldn't be there for that exact reason. If I could find a 1.3L manifold local for cheap enough I wouldn't run it. In theory moving the engine back might fix that issue. It's just a lot of work and I'm not sure if the weight balance would be enough to justify it in the end. Figured I'd see why the masses don't do it, or for those who did, was it worth it.

Thats cool but you didnt answer my question, in your original post you said ditching the intermediate shaft would help get the exhaust out of the way and I asked how it did that?

I have a stock 1.3 manifold if you wanting one, theres also nothing saying you have to run the exhaust on the inside of the frame or to the back for that matter. Take it over the drivers framerail and dump it behind the front tire with a short race bullet muffler. You could run it over the frame and down beside the frame to the back and build some boatsides to protect it and your body.

Heres how my exhaust is ran but keep in mind this is the passenger side since I'm running a v6.
