Lets see your tow rigs

Here's my new one. Gotta finish the motor install (400 in place of the 460 previous owner yanked) and get my stuff moved from storage by the end of this month.

I'm in the market for a truck and over the last few days I've been out on a few test drives. Need something that will be a daily driver as well as tow the Jeep, haul the camping gear, etc. I've driven the Duramax, Powerstroke and Cummins. My personal preference thus far concerning drivability is the Dodge 2500 Quad cab 4x4 6.7 Cummins because it picked up good, solid/comfortable ride and just didn't really feel all that big. The interior leaves quite a bit to be desired; looks and feels kinda CHEAP

However, I also like the F250 with the 6.4L Powerstroke. The turbo's really seem to work nicely getting the beast up and moving. Felt like a much lighter gas truck. I would be willing to consider it but it seems like everyone I talk to says the Ford diesels have suffered from quite a few problems. I'm not interested in plunking down that much money on something if it's not going to be relatively trouble-free and mechanically sound.

Can anyone set me on the right path between these two choices? I know the Duramax is awesome but for daily driving it didn't feel right.

Thanks in advance,

Terry

TQJ, it's a matter of personal preference. Both the Dodge and Ford have new engines this year so it's a crap shoot if they will be reliable or not. The last model Ford engine was a major pile so that's why people are shy of the Ford. If it were me I would never buy a new rig in the first model year of a new engine untill it had proven itself.....

Thank you Binder.

My apologies, I didn't notice the other thread discussing Ford vs. Dodge a little farther down.

Nonetheless, if anyone wants to put a few cents in feel free. The other thing that I'd be interested in knowing is how low people are getting the prices down on these rigs? Are they willing to do invoice? possibly throw in the rebate on top of that?

the 6.4 isn't "new". It's the same as the 6.0. That's why no one has high hopes for it.

My suggestion, figure out which you like best between the chevy and dodge. If you just have to have a Ford because you like the looks more then anything, then I couldn't stop ya.

While I think the Ford's "looks" are appealing, to me it's more about the quality/reliability of the parts that make heavy duty truck heavy duty (engine, tranny, suspension, frame, body).

I think I'm goin' for the Dodge. If I could afford to have this truck as a third or fourth vehicle and not a daily driver, I would probably give more consideration to the GMC/Chevy option.
