    5-speed Options behine SBC

Hi all, Cool Willys pu Mark! For a five speed manual tranny that can live behind a mild small block, and has a passenger's side drop t-case, consider the Toyota W56 from the late 1980s 4wd mini-trucks. Yeah, it is not "American iron" but it works, and is not that expensive to source. Also, a...

    Battery tender

Hi all, Crash, I have been using a Battery Tender Jr. on my FJ40 for several years now. It has worked great at keeping the battery topped-off; the rig will start right up after sitting for a few weeks (even during cold weather.) -Alan

Anyone in the enumclaw area use co2 for oba?

Hi all, I just use the regular 20 lb. CO2 tanks for OBA. Easy & quick to exchange at the welding supply shop, and it fills lots of tires between exchanges. -Alan

    New CJ-6 mild build.

Hi all, Good for you jeepermc! I really like the look of your CJ6 without a cage or roll bar, but it is absolutely not safe to trail run without some sort of roll-over protection! Yes, it costs a bit of money, but what price do you put on your life? Enjoy your rig! -Alan

    Which welder?

Hi all, This is the website where I bought the light-duty 230 volt MIG welder I have: http://www.hobartweldshop.com/servlet/the-Refurbished-Hobart-Welders/Categories Really good price - about $150 less than the lowest retail price I could find for the same MIG welder new. Regards, Alan

    4.3 or 302

Hi all, Which 4.3L V-6 do you have in the rig so far? A Vortec 4.3L produces a lot more power than the TBI version. No changes in motor mounts, cooling system, transmission, etc. Regards, Alan

    irok radials vs bias

Hi all, I have a buddy that runs 37 inch IROK radials on a FJ40 SOA. They work good in the snow (floatation) and mud, but he has taken out a sidewall (on the BusyWild, BTW.) Two other buddies run bias-ply IROKs without side wall problems. Regards, Alan

    1/2" Impact

Hi all, I bought a new IR 231 1/2 inch impact a couple of years ago. Great air tool! Performs much better than the cheap (air) impact guns I've used before. Best part, you should be able to find a newly made IR Model 231 for around US $125.00 on-line. Regards, Alan

    got a ? about spools.

Hi all, I don't have any experience with spools, but think if this guy wants to really 'wheel a YJ Wrangler he needs to ditch the 4 cylinder for a jeep with the 4.0L I-6. Or, plan on an engine swap sooner vs. later! Regards, Alan

22re extremely hard to start when cold out

Hi all, Not an expert by any standard, but two things come to mind: * cold weather is hard on lead-acid car batteries; * how long since the rig had a full tune-up (plugs, wires, rotor, cap, etc.)? Good luck! Alan

    Radial Tires

Hi all, I have a buddy that runs the 37 X 12.5R15 radial IROKs on his V-8 powered FJ40 and they perform very well, including in/on snow. Like all radial tires, they have thinnish side walls, but this is why they bulge out so nicely while aired-down. Regards, Alan

Hi all, Man, that all looks familiar! :haha: I was out in the garage this afternoon preparing my FJ40 for a clutch swap after the trip to the BusyWild 2 weeks ago! :redneck: Regards, Alan
