Finally back to an RV

I just put that same package of 20 LED's into my motorhome over the weekend. I was very impressed at how bright they are, and I'm really hoping the lower amp draw makes a difference because we typically dry camp and unfortunately I still don't have the kids trained to turn off the lights when they should

I reallly wish I would have taken an amp draw before and after. I am pretty sure there will be a couple amps saved easily....

So the lock was being stuburn and only worked when it wanted to. I said screw it and replaced it. It seems this style is very commonly used and very easy to source and inexpensive.

Mike, how tall is the ceiling in the bathroom? Is it the same as the main area?

I looked at an older camper this weekend and physically couldn't fit in the bathroom.

I think you are going to find most truck camper bathrooms to be a challenge for you. Mine has a skylight in it that gives me enough headroom but it is still a tight fit.
Pop up truck campers general have more shoulder room because they are not fully enclosed bathrooms

I have to keep the bathroom door cracked open in my camper to pop a squat! Haha
:redneck::redneck:

Where did you get the door handle/latch and freezer hinges?

I just installed a stereo and speakers in mine tonight. TV and wall mount is next. Almost doing the same as you, but a little different.

They ran my antenna cables right down the center

None the less, I made a bracket out of wood (yuck. I hate working with wood) and reinforced that area. Definitely a strong spot!

So over the course of owning the camper I had found the jacks started sticking and went to put it on the truck and had to work them a bit to get them to move. So I figured it was time to see what can be done to make them work correctly.

Sat back and did a bunch of searching and came up with no info on these manual jacks. Well I decided to just dig into them. By the 4th one I had them figured out pretty good and actually had to go back to the first 2 and change something.

So here is the top of the jack. The top cover simply pops off...

So to get the drive gear off there is a pin on the outer edge. Simply pound it out and slip the drive shaft out. The pins that the tool uses to turn it only lets it come out one way.

So next you gotta remove the driven gear. On the center there is a nut, remove it and then the gear and a pin(it should just slip out). Then remove the bearing, washer and nylon shouldered bushing. Pay close attention to the nut as it will be important on re-assembly.

The next part is tricky to get it apart easily. Holding the bottom of the jack set it on the ground upright(don't let it separate). Holding the bottom with your foot lift the outer portion up about 1/2" and grab a 90 degree pick. Inside the jack at the top there are 3 washers and a spring head. You want to make sure the washers don't stick to the outer body by using the pick and then lift it apart. You can see how it sits on top of the threaded shaft. Pull it off once its out and clean them. You can see how they are situated with copper, metal and copper.

Since the threaded part of the jack had zero grease on it and was a little rusty I did a light wire wheel on it. I found running the threaded part all the way up and greasing the threads and running it down and back up and wiping the rusty grease of and then repeating got grease on the other side of the jack female threaded portion.

Going back together was pretty straight forward except one thing.

Put the spring loaded head and 3 washers on the threaded portion and slide the outer portion onto the inner. Nylon shouldered bushing, washer, bearing, pin and then the driven gear.

This is where you need to pay attention with the nut that holds the driven gear on. Clean the threads real good and use a dab of blue locktight and tighten the nut just to where it starts to get snug--if you over tighten the driven gear will get stiff and cause the whole jack to be too stiff.

After that install the drive shaft and drive gear and lube the gears and put on the cover and your done.

Another big reason I wanted to pull the jacks was the previous owner had a dually and welded extensions on he front jacks and really messed up my view thru the mirrors. So with a little gentle work I cut them off and now the jacks are in the original spot and much better.

so what part do you think was binding? I don't currently have any issues with mine and I have greased the gears a couple times but I have never gone any further...
