FJ40/TBI 350/2wd 4L60

I have the chance to get a TBI350 and 4L60 out of a 91 Caprice Police cruiser for free. If I go this route I am looking at the AA kits:

This will be the first time I have done anything like this so suggestions etc would be appreciated. Shipping on stuff to Alaska is going to be murder so I can only do this once. :corn:

That would be a great drive train swap into a FJ40! :awesomework:

The problem is that link goes to an AA adapter for a 700R4.

Hi all,

Hey JNR-RNR, I would suggest this AA adapter:

This will mate to the later 1980-89 "split" type transfer case found in the FJ60 wagon, which is stronger & quieter than the earlier "one piece" t-cases found in FJ40s.

One lists 4L60, the other lists 700R4 then states 4L60 I thought..lemme double check...

yeah you have to click on the lil drop down thingy and read the bottom part about the transmissions " his kit is designed for exclusive use with the 2wd 700R-4 / 4L60 / 4L60E manufactured thru 1996 "

Is the output on that T-Case off set like the early 3speed FJ40 T-Case?

Yup. I think the split case would be the way to go since you will be having to buy an adapter either way. That way you won't have to worry about my kind of "split" case. :redneck:

I have a buddy up here parting out an 82 Fj 60..the case is mine if I want it. My head is spinning. I cannot find any threads right now on this conversion.

And now a guy I work with just offered me a 2UZ-FE complete drivetrain, wiring harness and ECU for $800..to much involved in that swap but it would be a screamer.

Its all about Karam and $$$$...naw I just take care of people if they need stuff. The 4x4 community up here in the interior of Alaska is a pretty good group of people.

Cheaper than the 350 to transmissin adapter kit by about $500

Hi All,

The "split" type t-case from the 1982 FJ60 would be a good choice; it has a low-range of 2.28 to 1 (IIRC) unlike the 1.99 to 1 of the later "split" 'cases.
