Gift ideas - for the fisher?

What's your budget?

Most people that are into flyfishing are weird (elitist/picky) about their gear. Not necessarily in a snobby way, but there's no point getting him something that he won't use.

It's not much different than if my couldn't-wrench-himself-out-of-a-wet-paper-bag brother-in-law tried to buy me tools for Christmas and I ended up with a Gator Grip Socket (actually happened).

Point: as a flyfisher, I'd much rather get a really nice pair of $50 forceps than a $200 flyrod. As long as I don't drop them, I'll never have to upgrade the forceps and they would be nicer than anything I own or would buy for myself. I have half a dozen $200 rods that I already don't use since I've bought nicer ones.

Don't buy anything from ****'s or Sportsman's Warehouse.

Thanks for the info, you make a very good point. I hate getting tools from someone who doesn't know anything about them.

Budget wise, probably right around $50 but would go as high as $100 if it was something that was just to good to pass up.

I'll check out Orvis, or one of the Seattle stores. Don't think Ill get a chance to get up north that far for one of the other stores. Thanks for the tips on where to shop.

One cool thing about Patricks Fly shop is that they offer classes for all levels of flyfishing. The costs are in your budget.

You could always find some one who does custom flys and buy and assortment of thoses. find out what he likes to fly fish for "ie" trout, salmon.steelhead..and get flys for that particular species of fish..:awesomework::beer:

Hey nick have you tryed sprotco? they have a good fly fishin section there may be worth a try? being thats local for ya....

Well I forgot all about this thread, good ideas, thanks for all the help guys.

I went over and checked out Orvis in Bellevue after work yesterday. Picked up a nice steelhead fly box and an assortment of flys for steelhead as thats what he fishes for mostly.

I looked at the classes that were listed on Patrick's site, and Ill keep those in mind for future gifts that would be pretty cool. Heck it says there are discounts for 2 people or more so I might just tag along to one of the lessons. :redneck:

did he wear them to the dinner table, or what???:redneck: Hit up Duck Dodgers on here....he's an avid Fly fisherman...
Ooooooh Ducky!?!?!?!???? Here Duckyduckyducky....:D :haha:

No, but as soon as dinner finished he took off, and when he came back he had his new waders on and hit the road to go fish.
